Headmaster Lee Hollowell has announced that on Wednesday, January 30th, the Central School Corporation will hold their annual business meeting at 6:00 p.m. in the school auditorium.

All members of the Central School Family and the community at large are welcome to attend, however, only bona fide members of the Central School Corporation will be allowed to directly participate, nominate and vote during the business meeting.

BackAlley Theatre has chosen the cast for the winter comedy called THE DIXIE SWIM CLUB. Join five southern women, whose friendships began on their college swim team, as they meet every August to catch up, meddle in each other’s lives, and laugh. The women are played by Amy Hall, Debbie Carr, Emily Beaird, Lisa Duty and Kim Pepmiller. The pay runs two weekends in February 14-16 and 21-23. Amy Hall lives in Stanley and also coaches the Dramaniacs, the teen after school drama group. This is her first stage performance although she has directed the youth drama group. She plays Vernadette a hard luck case who seems to have a black cloud following her.

The Mansfield Garden Club met Wednesday, December 19 for its Christmas party. Members and guests enjoyed a Christmas meal with all members contributing food. Games for the meeting included an ugly sweater contest, best socks contest and a memory contest. Also, members guessed how many pieces of candy were in an old fashioned Mason jar. Velda Neilson won the socks contest with Emma Mouser winning the memory contest.

Beth McLaren gave information for growing and taking care of poinsettia plants. The temperature should be 60 to 70 degrees and placed in a sunny spot near the window. You should water them once or twice a week. The easiest way to do this is to use ice cubes. With a sixinch pot should take 6 cubes and an 8-inch pot around 8 cubes every 3 to 5 days. You should treat the poinsettia the same as annuals when the plant becomes unkempt, put it in the compost pile and recycle the container.

DeSoto Parish Animal Shelter joins the ranks of shelters in using facial recognition technology to identify lost dogs and cats. This shelter now offers their community an additional tool to help lost and adoptable dogs and cats find their forever home.

Now every dog and cat that enters the DeSoto Parish Animal Shelter system becomes registered on Finding Rover. Users of Finding Rover can search the shelter and surrounding areas right from their smartphone or computer in efforts to find their missing pet, a neighbor’s missing pet, the family of a found pet, or search for adoptable pets.

Every dog and cat that leaves DeSoto Parish Animal Shelter, through a reunion or an adoption, can remain protected on Finding Rover when the pet parent registers on Finding Rover with the same email address that the shelter has on file. If that dog or cat ever gets lost, their record will already be in the system, and identifying that pet will be a snap.

The year 1939 provided us with favorite movies such as The Wizard of Oz and Gone with the Wind, which won Oscars and have set record movie sales, both at the box office and through the sale of first videos and now DVD’s. The two movies, however, are not the only things in the entertainment field that occurred in 1939; the world also was introduced to the Christmas story of “Rudolf the Red-Nosed Reindeer”.
