Stonewall Homemakers Meet

Stonewall Homemakers met at the Stonewall Town Hall March 8 and went to Fairfield Market for lunch and then to the Shreveport Aquarium for a visit.

Their next meeting will be at the Stonewall Town Hall on April 12 with a guess speaker from the LSU Ag. Center.

DAR Celebrates Women’s History Month

The Bon Chasse Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution held their monthly meeting at DeSoto Parish Library. Topic of program and presentation was Women's History Month.

The Louisiana Veterans Honor Medal was created to honor, recognize and thank Louisiana Veterans for their honorable military service. Bon Chasse Member Sarah Duncan was presented the Louisiana Veterans Honor Medal by Regent Toni Turk for her service in the Army with the 101st Airborne. They thank Sarah for her service!

Book Club Explores Russian Novel

“A Gentleman in Moscow” was this month’s selection by Books and Biscuits book club which met at the Village Eatery on March 6, 2018 for lunch and book review.

Debbie Carr was discussion leader and introduced the book by giving some information on the author Armor Towles. The author is an American who was inspired to write the novel after visiting a luxury hotel in Switzerland and wondering what would happen if a person was sequestered in a hotel for the rest of his life.

Stonewall Club Meets

From creating grapevine wreaths last month to making balls of plarn, the Swapportunity Club is where you need to be! The  ladies learned how to turn plastic bags into plastic yarn (plarn) at the Stonewall Branch Library on Wednesday, March 7. 

With plarn, they began creating a lightweight, weather-resistant sleeping mat that can be used by those in need.

As the 2018 Paralympic Games unfold in PyeongChang, Joaquin Native, Charles C. Freeman will celebrate his 80th Birthday, secure in the knowledge that his life has had a positive impact. Watching the amputees swarm down the slopes at breath-taking speeds, he will be remembering a winter day in 1973 when he took two-dozen brave U.S. amputee Veterans to the slopes of Loveland, CO, to test the newly developed VA skiing legs. Those ski-legs and dozens of other technological innovations that changed the lives of the handicapped were the product of team efforts that Charles led as Research and Education Officer for the Veteran’s Administration Center for Prosthetics and Orthotics

Garden Club Holds February Meeting

The Mansfield Garden Club met Wednesday, Feb. 21 at the Chamber of Commerce building for its monthly meeting with President Gail Gage presiding. Members enjoyed delicious refreshments provided by hostesses Wanda Rougeau, Bobbie English and Patsy Shadoin. Stacy Rivers read the minutes and Velda Neilson, Secretary called the roll. Ott Murphy, Treasurer, gave the Financial Report.

Dateline DeSoto Parish, State of Louisiana -- April 8, 1926 began as any other spring day. The sun was very bright, not a cloud in the sky. The trees were beginning to blossom and the leaves were turning green from a very hard winter. But this day would be very different in the Brown household. Will and Annie Lou Brown became the proud parents of their seventh child, a beautiful baby girl and they named her Suporia. Ah, what a day!
