Stonewall Homemakers Meet

Stonewall Homemakers met on Feb. 8 at the Stonewall Town Hall. They made corsages for the ladies in the Mansfield Nursing Homes. Their lunch was provided by some of the men that attended.

Their next meeting will be March8. They will visit the Shreveport Aquarium and eat lunch there.

LSMSA Students Compete,Place at State Beta Convention

Natchitoches–Twelve students from the Louisiana School for Math, Science, and the Arts participated in the state Beta Convention held Feb.7-9 at the Baton Rouge River Center and three qualified to attend the national convention to be held this summer.

Pelican Library Reveals Winner of 2017-18 Big Bucks Contest

The staff of Pelican Library was ecstatic with all the entries of the 2017-18 Big Bucks Contest, which included a vast field of entries from students, to women to senior hunters this year. Sadly, we had an interested sportsman report a 13-point buck harvest, but we never received a photo or related information to make the entry official.

The ironic thing about this year’s contestants came from two area women, who both brought down 11-point bucks within days of each other in November. Due to the fact that we could only award one

DeSoto Parish’s Longest Married Couple

Arthur “A.J.” and Jean Williams have been married for 63 years. The couple met in the summer of 1953. They married after a brief period of courting and have been together since.

A.J. was raised in Mansfield. Jean was raised in Galveston, Texas. The two met each other while they were attending Wiley College.

Mansfield Garden Club January Meeting

The Mansfield Garden Club met at 9:30 a.m., January 24, 2018, at the De Soto Chamber of Commerce Building for the monthly meeting with President, Gail Gage presiding. After refreshments and new year’s greeting which included the Club Collect, conservation pledge, and pledge of allegiance Stacy Rivers did the roll call. Ott Murphy, Treasurer, gave the Treasurer’s Report. The Club voted to donate money to “Pennies for Pines” National Garden Club program to help replace lost trees due to fire and water.

The Nerd Opens at BackAlley

BackAlley opens The Nerd Feb. 8 and continues all weekend 9-10 at 7 p.m. and a matinee on Sunday Feb. 11 at 2 p.m. at the theater in Grand Cane. Jay Fewless plays a friend who is surprised when his army buddy shows up but refuses to leave.

NDLE Students Celebrate Grandparents Day on Jan. 26

North DeSoto Lower Elementary celebrated their grandparents on Friday, Jan. 26. Over 600 grandparents came to share in the festivities. Each grade level performed a variety of songs, including ‘You are My Sunshine’. Grandparents also joined their Little Griffins in a fun-filled game of Book Bingo. Participants were all smiles as they enjoyed time at the photo booth. A ‘grand’ time was had by all.

Backalley Theatre presents The Nerd

BackAlley Theatre is gearing up for its winter comedy The Nerd. The two-weekend show will run Feb. 8- 16 at the theatre in Grand Cane. The show is the story of an old friendship between two army buddies that wears thin.

Starring as “the nerd” Rick Steadman is Barry Larson. Larson is familiar with BackAlley audiences from Barefoot in the Park and the Sander’s Family musicals.

BackAlley Community Theatre presents At the Hop

BackAlley Theatre is presenting a night of 50s and 60s music called At the Hop for two nights only: March 2 and March 3 at 7 p.m. in the theater.

The band Flashback will be playing and singing and inviting the audience to sing along as the evening is filled with oldies from a time you could actually understand the words to the songs. This show is not on the season ticket but is an extra, so call for reservations at 461- 0202 for the $10 show.
