Helen Odita lives in Shreveport and is a retired high school teacher with the Caddo Parish School System. She is originally from Nigeria, West Africa and graciously offered to display some of her artifacts and memorabilia of her native land at the Logansport Branch Library. 

Her childhood was very family oriented. She was informally and formally educated to the university level while in Nigeria and since coming to the United States in 1992, she has taken classes to be able to teach in the states

BackAlley theatre is presenting The Red Velvet Cake War as its spring comedy on May 3- 5, and 10-12 at 7 p.m. in the theater in Grand Cane. This promises to be one of the funniest presentations yet. Cast includes Kathleen James, Linda Sibley, Emily Beaird, John Nelson, Terry Sparks, Lisa Duty, Jada Page, Barry Larson, James Griffith, Joyce Middleton and Mary Jo Sallis.

A wildly eccentric family of Verdeens plan a family reunion in the town of Sweetgum Texas and all manner of mayhem ensues. Things spin hilariously out of control and to top it off a tornado is about to hit.

The Mansfield Lions Club had as their special guests and speakers - representatives of The DeSoto Quilters. The quilters brought samples of their quilts that have been cut, pieced and quilted by members of the De Soto Quilters.

Books and Biscuits Book Club met at the Village Eatery in historic Grand Cane April 3. The book for their discussion was “I Still Dream About You” by Fanning Flagg. The author’s career started in fifth grade when she wrote, directed and starred in her first play and she has not stopped since. She is the author of numerous clever and humorous stories about the South and lives in California and Alabama.
