On Friday, November 12, the Mansfield High School Wolverines traveled to Farmerville to play the Union Parish High School Farmers. The Wolverines, one of the smallest 3A schools in the State, were up against a much larger football powerhouse.

First quarter action gave a small glimpse of the uphill battle facing the Wolverines. Senior #10 Monquavarius Wells proved to the Wolverine fans that MHS came to play with a TD late in the first quarter; however, the quarter ended with a score of UPHS 14, MHS 8

The second quarter was rough on the MHS team. Union Parish HS was able to score 3 touchdowns on the Wolverines. MHS was still battling through the game, and that was evident with a 35 yd reception by #88 Nick Bailey. But the Wolverines could not get into the end zone. The first half ended with the Wolverines down 38 – 8.

On Friday, November 5, the Mansfield High School Wolverines hosted a district game against the Loyola College Prep Flyers. The game that decided the district 1-3A champs was won by the visiting team, but the home team played hard until the very end.

First quarter play proved to the Wolverine faithful who braved the cold to watch their young men play that this was going to be quite a battle between the two teams. The only score during the first quarter was from an LCP field goal; the quarter ended with the score LCP 3, MHS 0.

The second quarter continued the back-and-forth between the two teams; however, LCP was able to get into the endzone for the TD and extra point. The teams left the field for halftime with a score of LCP 10, MHS 0.

North DeSoto who started the season 0-4, with one of the toughest schedules in the state, turned it around and won five straight games and now had the chance to play for the district championship against Northwood. With both teams rolling through district opponents, this was set to be a good game. A win meant a home playoff game for the Griffins, a loss would put them on the road.

Northwood received the ball and the Griffin defense came out strong forcing a quick three and out and a punt. North DeSoto didn’t have the ball long before they mishandled the handoff and fumbled. The defense came up big again though as Evan Howe got an interception. This time the Griffins moved the ball better with a couple of run plays. On fourth down a long pass to Cole Cory was completed in the endzone. Griffins took the lead 7-0 with 3:28 left. Northwood had the ball and was driving going into the second quarter.
