The Many Bass Club’s 2021 May Tournament was held May 8 and 9 on Toledo Bend. The weather was pre-frontal and windy with high, bright skies, and warming days. Sunday, like last month proved to be the better day for fishing, with the three anglers that fished Sunday taking the top three positions as well as the big fish of the tournament.

Michael Sonnier continued his great year. Michael’s winning five fish stringer weighed 13.09 pounds and included the big fish of the tournament which weighed 5.35 pounds. Michael caught his fish on soft plastics and topwater baits in the midlake area. Gary West finished second with five fish that weighed 11.99 pounds. He caught his fish in the mid-lake area on soft plastics. Tim Oxley placed third with five fish that weighed 10.35 pounds, caught on wacky worms.

Lady Panthers Fall Short in Quarterfinal Class B Playoffs Loss

The Stanley Lady Panthers saw their season come to an end in the Quarterfinals of the Class B Playoffs with a 7-1 loss to Holden. Stanley finished with a 22-13 record on the aeon and had 6 players named to the District 4-B All District Team. Riley Palmer, Jade Jones, McKinsey Brouillette, and Maddie Holmes were named 1st Team All District. Carli Hanks and Bonnie were selected to the 2nd Team.

For the season Palmer, a 7th grader, batted .481 with 40 runs batted in and 11 doubles.

LHS Tiger Track Teams Compete in Region 1 Meet; Several Qualify for State Competition

LHS Tiger Track Teams Compete in Region 1 Meet; Several Qualify for State Competition

The Logansport Tigers and Lady Tigers traveled to Lakeside High School on April 27 to

compete in the Region 1 Class A Regional Meet. Several Tigers and one Lady Tiger qualified

for the Class A State Track and Field Meet in Baton Rouge. The Tiger team took home the 2nd place trophy with 76 total teams points. The Lady Tigers finished in a tie for 11th place with Arcadia.

On the Ladies side, LaBrittne Jenkins finished 3rd in the Long Jump, with a jump of 15-8.50 , to qualify for the State meet. In the 800 meter run, Takiyah Florie finished in 12th place. The 4 X 100 Meter Relay finished in 7th place. In the 400 meter run, Florie finished in 10th place.

Joaquin’s Victoria Byrd Region 3 Champion in 3 Events

The 2A Region 3 Track Meet was hosted by Palestine High School this past weekend, and Joaquin’s, Victoria Byrd, was the Region 3 Champion in three events (Long Jump, 100m, 200m) qualifying her for the state meet. She set the bar high in long jump with a mark of 18’3”, which is her best mark of the season.

High School Seniors Encourage Peers to Complete the FAFSA

As Louisiana’s high school seniors prepare for graduation and college, affording college may be a unique challenge, due to job loss within families as a result of the coronavirus pandemic. The Louisiana Office of Student Financial Assistance has long advocated for students to focus on finding opportunities for financial assistance, things like grants and scholarships, to help pay for college. One thing each student can control, especially during times of uncertainty, is completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), to maximize the amount of gift aid (free money).

On Monday, April 12th, the Joaquin High School Tennis team competed in the District Tennis Tournament.

The players qualifying for regionals are Timothy Mason- 1st Place in Boy’s Singles.

Juan Gomez and Angel Gonzalez- 1st Place in Boy’s Doubles, Marshall Fry and Stormy Runnels- 2nd Place in Mixed Doubles, and Whitney Garrett and Mariel Luna- 2nd Place in Girl’s Doubles.

Softball Season Ends for Lady Tigers; Woods Pitches 2nd Perfect Game of Season

In their 2nd round playoff match-up the Lady Tigers hosted the Lady Redskins from Ringgold. Katie Paul Woods got the start on the mound and pitched her 2nd perfect game of the season. The Lady Tigers advanced to the Quarterfinals with a 16-0 win. Of the 9 batters she faced, Woods struck out 7. Logansport scored 11 in the 1st inning and 5 in the 2nd.

Sara Arbuckle singled to drive in Madison Magee and Jordan Porterfield for the 2-0 lead.

Arbuckle then scored on a passed ball for the 3rd run. Emmarie Atkins singled and drove in courtesy runner Na’Cajea Garnder. Avery Creech followed with a single that scored E. Atkins. Porterfield doubled to right field and drove in Creech, Kennedi Smith and Magee on the play. Porterfield scored when Landry Atkins stole 2nd base. L. Atkins then scored on a passed ball. Arbuckle scored the final run of the inning on a passed ball.

Lady Tigers Advance to Playoffs with Win Over Parkway

The Logansport Lady Tiger advanced into the 2021 Playoffs as the number 5 seed in Class A. After a bye in the 1st round, the Lady Tigers will face off with Ringgold in the 2nd round. In their final regular season game of the 2021 season, the Lady Tigers hosted the Lady Panthers from Parkway.

Katie Woods got the start on the mound for Logansport and picked up the win going 6 innings and striking out 6. The Lady Tigers picked up the win 10-9, after scoring 6 runs in the bottom of the 6th inning. Parkway took an early 2 run lead in the top of the 1st inning. Jordan Porterfield scored the first Logansport run on a passed ball in the button of the 1st. The Lady Tigers added a second run in the inning to tie the game at 2. In the bottom of the 2nd, Landry Atkins worked a walk and Colby Rolfe scored on the play. In the top of the 3rd inning, Parkway tied the game at 3 on a ground out. Sara Arbuckle gave the Lady Tigers the lead when she scored on a ground out by L. Atkins.
