The Many Bass Club’s September Tournament took place the weekend of September 9-10. Anglers could fish either Saturday or Sunday. Thirteen anglers fished the tournament, and the results were mixed. The summer weather had moderated a few days before the contest, but the water temps remained in the mid-eighties. Both days had moderate winds and some clouds to temper the sun’s heat. Only three anglers caught a five-fish limit, and they took the top three spots in the derby. The Lake level continues its slow draught-driven fall and was at 168.4 MSL on the tournament days.

If anyone wanted to see four quarters of high school football action, Independence Stadium in Shreveport on Friday, September 1, 2023, was the place to be. While the faithful Wolverine fans did not get to leave Shreveport celebrating a victory, the fans did get to see that the 2023-2024 Wolverine Varsity Football Team, led by Head Coach Darrell Barbay, will be a force to be reckoned with this season.

The entire season opener was a back-andforth football game. The Wolverines were the first to score in the opening minutes as Junior Quarterback #7 Sharmal Booker was able to complete an 81 yard pass to Junior Receiver #2 Kalvin Jackson. The Huntington Raiders quickly answered with a score of their own, and the tone was set for the night. An additional touchdown pass from Booker to Jackson brought the first quarter to an end with the Wolverines on top; MHS 12, HHS 8.

DeSoto Parish high school football fans were out in full-force Friday, August 25, 2023, for the annual Parish Jamboree. This year’s football action was hosted by the Logansport High School Tigers. Players from LHS, Mansfield High, and North DeSoto High provided exciting football for the fans who came to watch their favorite teams, as well as bands and spirit groups.

The first game pitted the 1A Logansport Tigers against the 4A North DeSoto Griffins. At the end of 15 minutes of play, the Griffins were able to exit the match as victors with a score of 7 – 0. The second 15-minute game, the 2A Mansfield Wolverines versus the 4A ND Griffins, saw a little more scoring as ND ended the match up with a score of 21 to the Wolverines 6. The third and final game for the evening was the Wolverines against the Tigers. This was a back-and-forth for the entire 15 minutes as neither team was able to score on the other.

The Mansfield High School Wolverines hosted the Center High School Roughriders in an evening of pre-season football on Thursday, August 17, 2023. The Wolverine faithful were able to get a glimpse of the home team on a hot August evening at Washington-Taylor-Rogers Stadium. At the conclusion of the action, the Wolverine fans exited the stadium ready for some Wolverine football for the 2023 season!

While no official score was kept, North DeSoto outscored Haughton. Landry Wyatt, Cole Cory, Miller Warren, Trysten Hopper and Kenny Thomas all scored touchdowns with the starting offense, while Haughton didn’t score on the starting defense.

ND Football Hosted 3 Day Youth Football Camp

Well, I hope y’all enjoyed the weekend that we only had 92 and 93 degree days! I thought after all these over 100 feels like temps; I might have to grab a jacket for a 92 degree day ha-ha. BUT, the heat is once again on BROIL verses PRE HEAT. Hurry up winter, so I can complain of being cold, I'm tired of griping about the HOT!!!!
