On February 8, Logansport High School held signing day for two of their talented football players, Khymeron “Khym” Boykins and Hayden Rolfe. Coaches, family, teammates and friends gathered in the Logansport to witness the two athletes make their next move in their futures.

These two young men’s most dedicated supporters and cheerleaders are their parents, with Khym’s mother Ny Boykins there to witness his signing, along with other friends and family. Hayden’s parents, Rebecca Rolfe and Darien Rolfe, and siblings also added to the room full of smiling faces.

Congratulations to each of these young men and their future football careers!

Chief Executive Officer of DeSoto Regional Health Systems Todd Eppler would like to introduce the people of our area to DRHS’s newest Physician Assistant, Bob Toner.

Toner is originally from York, Pennsylvania and joined the US Air Force after high school. He completed the Military Physician Assistant Program from the University of Nebraska in 2002 and was stationed at Barksdale AFB from 2002-2006, where he met his wife, Carmen. He retired from the U.S. Air Force in 2013 with nearly 23 years of service and in 2016 moved to Logansport, LA.

He worked at Ochsner LSU in the Cystic Fibrosis Center and Pulmonary Department. He completed his Doctorate of Medical Science in 2019 with a fellowship in Pediatrics. He has over 14 years of Family Medicine experience and over 6 years of Pulmonary experience. Bob is very compassionate about providing high quality care to his patient population and will treat you with respect and dignity.

The Mansfield High School Football Team was pleased to honor two of its senior players with a signing day at MHS. Zach Scott and DaKeldrick Thomas both have the opportunity to play football at the collegiate level.

Zach Scott plans to play football at Centenary College in Shreveport, LA, and DaKeldrick Thomas plans to play football at Southern Arkansas University in Magnolia, AR.

The Lady Wolverines and Wolverines hosted a district basketball match-up on Friday, February 3, 2023, at the Wolverine Gymnasium.

While the Lady Wolverines fell to the Lady Tigers (WHS 53, MHS 45) and the Wolverines also fell to the Tigers (WHS 62, MHS 49), the fans who attended the games were treated to an evening of non-stop basketball action. Both games were a back-and-forth between the two teams for the entire game.

The Many Bass Club kicked off their 2023 Season on January 7 and 8. The weather was unseasonably warm with highs in the upper 60’s and low 70’s. The water temps were in the mid to upper 50’s following a week of warming weather, and the moon was full. The fish were active and shallow, and eight double-digit stringers were brought to the scales. The anglers reported that their fish were predominately caught shallow around grass. Grass continues to be reported from more and more areas of the lake, and it will be a factor in the club’s tournaments this year.

The Mansfield High School Lady Wolverines and Wolverines hosted district opponent Many on Tuesday, January 10, 2023. The fans in the Wolverines gymnasium were treated to an evening of basketball action that showcased the local talent. Both the Lady Wolverines and the Wolverines seized the district wins against the Lady Tigers and Tigers from Many.

Cooper Holmes was recently invited to the Powershowcase Home Run Derby in Miami, Fl, at the Marlins park where kids from 12 years of age to high school seniors from all the USA and some from other countries competed in thier age groups.

Cooper had one of the most impressive rounds seen in recent years for the 14U category. He hit 15 homers with most of them over the stadiums actual fence. The distance of 3 of his longest home runs were 460ft 468 ft the longest 475ft. Cooper brought home 4 awards. The Colossus of Clout the prestigious Babe Ruth Award for the longest home run. The most home runs in the preliminary round, most consecutive home runs, and the most home runs hit overall in his age group. Cooper is the son of Lamar and Kelli Holmes.
