It was a dark and stormy night for football action in Jena on Friday, November 11, 2022. The 2A Mansfield Wolverines made the trek to face the 3A Jena Giants in the first round of the State Division III Non-Select football playoffs. A change in the playoff structure by the Louisiana High School Athletic Association (LHSAA) ended the practice of playoff games only being between same-class schools, so, for this round, the football fans who braved the rain witnessed a playoff clash between a 3A school and a 2A school. Rain, thunder, and lightning caused the opening kickoff to be delayed for almost two hours; at 8:48 p.m. the game that had been scheduled for 7:00 p.m. began.

The Griffins are sitting at 7-0 with the sight of a perfect season within reach. This week was a big test for North DeSoto to stay perfect. A game that was picked as Game of the Week on multiple platforms, it was a big game with the Huntington Raiders in town. A game for first place in district.

Raiders received the ball to start.

A block in the back penalty pushed them back. Jaxon Terry got a sack for the defense. Huntington was able to move the ball pretty well their first drive. It looked like they had good rhythm as they converted two fourth downs on a long drive.

However, on the third fourth down, Lincoln Hooper broke up the pass for a turnover on downs.
