On a hot Saturday afternoon in the parish seat of Allen Parish, two gunslingers from Logansport and Oberlin battled.
Logansport’s starting pitcher, Parker, struck out eight; while Oberlin’s starter, Landon Vidrine, struck out four batters. The deciding digit, though, was five as Vidrine allowed five runs (four of them earned) on 11 hits as the visiting Tigers prevailed 5-0 to advance to the LHSAA state baseball semifinals.
Leadoff hitter Jace Thompson led Logansport with three hits in his four trips to the plate and scored three runs.
Oberlin’s only hit of the afternoon came as Vidrine led off the bottom of the first with a single to center field.
Thompson led off the game with a single on a 3-2 count. After a sacrifice bunt and a strikeout, he scored on a single to right by Hayden Rolfe. A fielder’s choice ended the inning with no other damage.
