The Griffin received the ball to start the game. The drive started with two runs from Trysten Hopper. Luke Delafield found Landry Wyatt on a pass play. Then griffins drive stalled and they turned it over on downs. Minden got a first down on the first play of the drive. They went for it on fourth down and converted. The Griffin defense was able to get the stop though, as Konner Watson got to the QB to bring up fourth down. Delafield found Wyatt again. This time on third down to keep the drive going. Then Kenny Thomas got to the edge and took it all the way to the endzone. It was 7-0 with 4:50 left. Defense made quick work and forced three and out and a punt.

The Mansfield High School Wolverine Football Team traveled to Monroe to face the Ouachita Christian School Eagles on Friday, September 15, 2023. The faithful Wolverine followers did not get to leave Monroe with the win that was desired, but, again, the Wolverine fans were treated for four full quarters of football action as their young Wolverines faced an OCS football team that has hoisted 2 State Championship trophies and 2 State runner-up trophies in the last four years.

The MHS running game was the offensive course-of-action that MHS Head Coach Darrell Barbay chose for the majority of the Friday night game. Junior #2 Kalvin Jackson and Seniors #4 Rykeelin Vanzant and #8 Terrance Pegues stayed busy all evening as they moved up and down the field. The only TD for the evening for the Wolverines was scored on a running play as Junior QB #7 Sharmal Booker handed the ball to Vanzant with about 5 minutes remaining in the first quarter of the game.

The Many Bass Club’s September Tournament took place the weekend of September 9-10. Anglers could fish either Saturday or Sunday. Thirteen anglers fished the tournament, and the results were mixed. The summer weather had moderated a few days before the contest, but the water temps remained in the mid-eighties. Both days had moderate winds and some clouds to temper the sun’s heat. Only three anglers caught a five-fish limit, and they took the top three spots in the derby. The Lake level continues its slow draught-driven fall and was at 168.4 MSL on the tournament days.

If anyone wanted to see four quarters of high school football action, Independence Stadium in Shreveport on Friday, September 1, 2023, was the place to be. While the faithful Wolverine fans did not get to leave Shreveport celebrating a victory, the fans did get to see that the 2023-2024 Wolverine Varsity Football Team, led by Head Coach Darrell Barbay, will be a force to be reckoned with this season.

The entire season opener was a back-andforth football game. The Wolverines were the first to score in the opening minutes as Junior Quarterback #7 Sharmal Booker was able to complete an 81 yard pass to Junior Receiver #2 Kalvin Jackson. The Huntington Raiders quickly answered with a score of their own, and the tone was set for the night. An additional touchdown pass from Booker to Jackson brought the first quarter to an end with the Wolverines on top; MHS 12, HHS 8.
