The in-parish contest that is sometimes referred to as the Battle of Highway 84 was held Friday, September 23, at Logansport Stadium. This year, the Mansfield Wolverines traveled to Logansport to take on the 2021 1A State Runner Up Logansport High School Tigers. For the Wolverine fans, it was a short drive for a long night, as the Tigers defeated the Wolverines, 52-8. The first quarter action looked like the game was going to be a back-and-forth between the two DeSoto Parish teams. The Wolverines received the opening kickoff but could not get the ball down the field to score. The Tigers, however, were able to score on their first possession; with about 5 minutes remaining in the first quarter, LHS was able to get a TD and a twopoint conversion.

Football action at Washington-Taylor-Rogers Stadium on the campus of Mansfield High School commenced Friday, September 16, with an opening kickoff from the OCS Eagles to the MHS Wolverines. Head Coach Darrell Barbay and his group of young men were poised and ready to play as their first possession began deep in MHS territory. The Wolverines could not get a first down on their first drive, but the Wolverine fans were already taking notice of some MHS players: Senior Running Back #5 Derrick Thomas and Senior Wide Receiver #7 Nick Davis. OCS was the first team to score at the 7:30 mark in the first quarter, and the score became OCS 6, MHS 0. Back-and-forth play ensued between the Wolverines and the Eagles, and, again, Wolverine fans were able to realize that MHS now has an all-around kicker – Senior #27 Isaac Jenkins.

The Mansfield High School Wolverine Football Team opened its official season at the Battle on the Border at Independence Stadium in Shreveport on Saturday, September 3. While the game against the Huntington Raiders did not end as the Wolverine fans had hoped — the final score was HHS 58, MHS 18 — the mighty Wolverines battled to the end.

The 2A Wolverine Football Team under new head coach Darrell Barbay entered the field ready to kick off to the Raiders. A nice opening kick by Senior #27 Isaac Jenkins put the Raiders with a bit of field to cover. Despite 2 penalties and the Wolverine defense, the Raiders were able to march down the field to score within the first 2 minutes of the game. The power of the 4A Huntington Raiders became evident during the first quarter, as the Raiders picked up 28 points and the Wolverines were left scoreless.

North DeSoto was scheduled to kickoff their season on Thursday, but the weather had other plans. After a storm came through, in the midst of a two hour lightning delay, it was decided that the season opener needed to be moved to Saturday evening. So the Griffins had to wait another day to take on Airline.
