DeSoto Organizations Present Gyth Rigdon of “The Voice” in Concert

NBC’s “The Voice - Season 16” finalist and Nashville Recording artist Gyth Rigdon will be presented in concert on the Logansport riverfront, on October 12, 2019 during the 3rd Annual Northwest Louisiana Gumbo Cook-off & Festival, “The Battle for the Paddle”.

Gyth Rigdon has quickly found fame after being Runner-Up on Season 16 of NBC’s The Voice, but he has been sharing his mix of Country, Rock, and Soul through his albums, radio, and his high energy shows for years. He has shared the stage with major stars such as Blake Shelton, Gary Allan, Darius Rucker, Alabama, and many more. You can follow Gyth on his 2019 “When I’m Gone” Tour.

Rigdon will be followed on stage by DeSoto parish’s own regional favorites Lucas Jagneaux & The Roadshow (formally known as After Hours). Lucas was the recent winner of the 2019 TMP Songwriter’s Contest.

MidSouth Bank Makes Donation to UMShare for Uniform Drive

MidSouth Bank made a $500 donation to the First United Methodist Church in Mansfield and UMShare to help purchase 450 school uniforms for DeSoto Parish students. Banking Center Manager Candy Remedies and CRA Officer LaCarsha Babers also provided financial education materials to families on distribution day.

BackAlley Theatre Opens Season with “At Wits End”

BackAlley Theatre opens its new season with “At Wits End”, which is the life story of Erma Bombeck, one of the best know humor writers of this century.

The play runs Sept 6, 7, 8 and Sept 13, 14, 15. The Thursday and Friday show times are at 7:00 p.m. with the Sunday performances beginning at 2:00 p.m.

For our Sunday matinees a sack lunch (chicken salad, fruit, dessert) can be ordered ahead and served at the theater for $10. You can just order when you make reservations, and pay when you pick it up.

Books & Biscuits Book Club’s August Meeting

The July meeting of Books & Biscuits Book Club was held at KJs Village Grille in Grand Cane, on August 6, 2019, for lunch and book discussion. Diane Cook, discussion leader for “Home from the Hills” by William Humphrey, earlier had provided copies of the “out of print” book and DVDs of the movie based on the book and treated members to a BBQ lunch, based on an episode from the book.

Lauren Coburn Honored with Bridal Shower

On Sunday afternoon, July 28, Lauren Coburn was the guest of honor at a miscellaneous bridal shower at the Mansfield Female College in Mansfield. Hostesses pictured along with the bride are Katie Stewart Cheyanne Stewart, Amber Smith, Honoree Lauren Coburn, Kayli Hanks, and Brittany Jennings. Lauren is the bride-elect of Zackery Cheatwood of Joaquin, Texas. The wedding will take place on September 21, 2019.

BPCC Reports Summer 2019 Graduates for the Area

The following students graduated from Bossier Parish Community College on July 18, 2019 in the College’s Health and Physical Education Complex.

Commencement speaker for the 2:00 pm ceremony was Dr. John F. George, Jr., President and CEO of BRF. BPCC Chancellor Dr. Rick Bateman, Jr. presided over the College’s 82nd graduation ceremony.

Congratulations to the following graduates: Coushatta – Valencia Smith, Associate of Applied Science, Computer Information Systems; Many – Lauren Gentry, Associate in Nursing; and Stonewall – Jared Redfearn, Certificate of Technical Studies, Communication Media.
