Muzikology to Headline Mansfield Christmas Festival

Get ready to “Dance Around the Courthouse” Saturday, December 8 when Muzikology cranks up to entertain the people of Mansfield during the Parade and Festival Day, which is an annual event on the second Saturday in December.

Their musical biography reads, “Muzikology, the study of music, was established in 2008 to meet the demand of live music entertainment”.

Mansfield Churches Unite for Ecumenical Church Services

On Sunday afternoon, November 18, Fr. George Genuso and the congregation of Christ Memorial Episcopal Church hosted the gathering of three other community churches for an Ecumenical Church Service. The definition of Ecumenical is the desire to unite several Christian church denominations. This merger included participation from not only Christ Memorial Episcopal Church but was also comprised of First United Methodist Church, Union Spring Baptist Church and St. John the Baptist Church, all of Mansfield.

Fr. Genuso opened the service by welcoming the overflowing crowd of all ages. The theme of the special service was “Unity in the Community” with several denominations and races coming together to praise God and join in Christian fellowship. Liturgists that read scripture were Worlita Williams and Felicia Steadman of Union Spring Baptist Church.

LHS Students Gather Food for Thanksgiving Family Disbursements

Times can be tough for families, especially during the holidays. Keeping this in mind, students at Logansport High School gathered canned goods to build boxes for 35 families to be distributed at Thanksgiving. Village of Grand Cane Honors Raymond Powell

The Historic Village of Grand Cane will salute Raymond Powell as Honorary Citizen during the Annual Pioneer Christmas Parade on December 1, 2018. Powell’s history with Grand Cane began when he arrived as Principal of Grand Cane High School during the 1950s. He served as Principal, teacher, counselor and basketball coach at the small, rural school, influencing the lives of the students in ways that many remember as beneficial and even inspiring. Powell was raised in Logansport and taught at Stanley High School before coming to Grand Cane.

After leaving Grand Cane High School, Powell went on to serve as Administrator with the DeSoto Parish School Board before retiring. While public education was his career, Powell has a long and

The Farm Wife: The Song of my People

I am not so sure if this go ‘round I purchased chickens, or provided training facilities to some sort of Gallus gallus domesticus Choir.

Each morning, you can find me at daybreak tending to my flock. I give them feed. I clean out their bowls and offer fresh cool water. I open their hatch and they pour out like a waterfall of feathers. And as they stretch their legs, I get serenaded with the morning’s music.

Some of them just simply ‘la la la’, as if getting their vocal chords ready for the grand solo. Carlisle, our new Roo, belts out Amore in a hauntingly beautiful tenor as he croons to the ladies. And one chicken…bless her heart, she is as tone-deaf as they come, but still commences to walk around singing to herself. Da duh da…da da DA!

DPSB’s Corley Visits Lion’s Club

The Mansfield Lions Club recently had Clay Corley, the DeSoto Parish School Board Superintendent, as their speaker. Corley said the six months on the job has been good for the School System but “sure went by quickly.”

The schools in Louisiana are making some changes in how schools are graded compared to previous years. Clay wanted to make sure we are comparing each school system with last year’s grades.

Logansport FFA travels to Indiana for Nationals

The Logansport FFA chapter traveled to Indianapolis, Indiana for the 2018 National FFA Convention. The students who attended were Katherine Atkins, Madelyn Arnold, Elizabeth Register, Britney Pope, Ava Vowell, Kaylin Kirby, Julianne Pitts, Destini Briggs, Katie Woods, Maralee Briggs, Hallee Holloway, and Bailey McConathy.
