The Logansport FFA chapter traveled to Indianapolis, Indiana for the 2018 National FFA Convention. The students who attended were Katherine Atkins, Madelyn Arnold, Elizabeth Register, Britney Pope, Ava Vowell, Kaylin Kirby, Julianne Pitts, Destini Briggs, Katie Woods, Maralee Briggs, Hallee Holloway, and Bailey McConathy.

BackAlley announces the cast for its upcoming comedy INLAWS OUTLAWS, AND OTHERS WHO SHOULD BE SHOT running for 7 shows in December. The play runs Dec. 6,7,8, 13,14, 15 at 7pm and a special matinee Dec 9 at two o’clock in the theater in Grand Cane. Tickets are $15. The play involves a Christmas Eve dinner that is interrupted by a robbery. The family is taken hostage and as the doorbell rings, more and more people are included as hostages. What results is a hilarious evening of laughter.

Historic Grand Cane’s 7th Annual Cruisin in Grand Cane took place on Saturday, October 20st. The weather was a mixed bag of light mist and very light rain. All in all, not the best weather for a car show, but 50 plus cars, trucks and tractors braved the weather and joined us in Grand Cane. Smaller than normal crowds still came to enjoy the food, fellowship and spectacular show gathered on Main Street.

BackAlley Community Theater is proud to present the third show of our 2018-2019 season, In-laws, Outlaws, and Others that Should be Shot. This play is sure to keep you in stitches while celebrating the true meaning of Christmas. Two robbers are inadvertently thrown into the middle of a Christmas celebration. With each ring of the doorbell, they are in charge of more and more hostages until we begin to wonder who is holding who hostage. The laughs are nonstop and the characters are outrageous.

John Neilson returns to our stage as Thomas, a level-headed Dad who keeps everyone in check. John was in last seasons the Red Velvet Cake Wars, in addition to numerous other plays including The Foreigner and Southern Hospitality. John has also performed on the BackAlley stage playing his upright bass.

Mansfield Elementary School held their awards ceremony on Thursday, October 18th, to celebrate the amazing accomplishments made by the students during the 1st 9 Weeks. Kindergarten through 4th grade students received awards based on their effort pertaining to their academics, behavior and attendance. Some of the awards that were presented at the ceremony were Shining Stars, DOJO, Proficiency Masters, Accelerated Reader and the Super Fit Kids. Wolverines have began their 2nd 9 Weeks, which will last until Christmas break.

The City of Mansfield heard a presentation from David Calhoun at the October 8th meeting concerning the refurbishing of the old Nabors sign. Calhoun also visited the Chamber of Commerce meeting Tuesday to garner interest in the project of refurbishing the historical sign.

Van Reech gave a brief historical lesson, telling that “Nabors Trailers was one of the largest manufacturers and employers of the parish. Their operations covered several city blocks over where the old Hwy 171 used to snake through town before the bypass.

Central School will host their Fall Bazaar on October 20th from 10 am to 2 pm. The Fall Bazaar event will be held at 1035 Second Street in Grand Cane. This is a rain of shine event, and admission is free.

The Central School Fall Bazaar is an annual fundraiser to assist the student’s projects. Chicken Spaghetti plates are available as well as baked goods. There is a class raffle basket available, with chances only a dollar.

The Historic Grand Cane Association (HGCA) will hold its 7th Annual Cruisin’ in Grand Cane Car and Tractor Show on Saturday October 20, 2018 from 9:00 AM until 2:00 PM. This very popular event will showcase antique, classic and street rod vehicles as well as tractors. Entries are limited to those that are model year 1988 and older.
