Williams Observe Sixty-Third Anniversary

Mr. and Mrs. Arthur J. (A.J.) recently observed their 63rd wedding anniversary on Monday, August 28, 2017. They were married in Galveston, Texas on August 28, 1954 at Wesley Tabernacle Methodist Church.

Mrs. Jean Williams retired from the Desoto Parish School system in 1992 with 34 years teaching, and Mr. Williams retired in 2002 with 47 years as a teacher, principal, and Central Office administrator and supervisor.

They are the proud parents of two daughters. Dianne and Beverly both received their Bachelor Degrees from The University of Louisiana at Monroe (formerly Northeast Louisiana University). Dianna, a registered nurse recently retired from Aetna Health Systems USA, and Beverly is still working as a Radiologic Technologist in Heath Cath and Cardio-Vascular labs.

Turners Celebrate 60th Anniversary

We have been blessed with 60 years of marriage. It was in God’s plan from September 2, 1957 to September 2, 2107 for us to be a family. He gave us three daughters and two sons to be parents of. Christolyn, Kenneth, Belinda, Robert (deceased) and Frances.

Grand Cane High School and Central School Reunion Held

A good crowd came to Central School in Grand Cane, Louisiana on Aug. 5 to celebrate 50 years since the last Grand Cane High School graduation in May of 1967. Honorees were Wayne Bentley, Sammie Brown, Monette Burford, Barbara Davis, Linda Gamble, Deborah Griffith and Marjorie Heath. Deceased members include Joe Cowdin, Paula Hutchings, Jerry West and Francis Hall.

It is also 50 years since Central School Corporation started a school in the fall of 1967. Mrs. Ricky Howe was a student at Central from the beginning. Mrs. Cathy Hunt Latham was also one of the first Central students as well.

BackAlley Theatre Opens New Season with “Classic Favorites”

BackAlley cranks up its 17th season with the very popular band The Classics presenting a show that brings together all of their favorite music. The band featuring Donny Smith on lead guitar, Darrel Elliott on bass guitar, Kent Gill on the fiddle, Albert Clinton on the drums and Greg Taylor on the keyboard showcases all the music that has made the band popular.

The vocalists for this show are Terry Sparks, Paula Callender and Stacie Hinds

Howard Visits Pelican Branch Library

Ensign Marcus Howard (U.S. Navy) and his family are shown at the Pelican Branch Library visiting from Guam and Hawaii. He is a 2003 graduate of Pelican All Saints School. He was a star basketball player and helped to win the First State Championship – Class C Title.

Thornton Donates Book to Pelican Library

Edna Thornton is shown donating a copy of “Pelican – Our Home” to the Pelican Branch Library. Carol Crump, library clerk, is the recipient on behalf of the Pelican Branch Library. This book is authored by the students, faculty and friends of the Pelican High School. It was funded by International Paper Company. The copyright date is 1985.

Hadley and Thomas Exchange Wedding Vows

Miss Anna Elise Hadley of Collierville, Tennessee, formerly of Mansfield, Louisiana, and Mr. Deatric DeWayne Thomas of Shreveport, Louisiana, were united in Holy Matrimony on Saturday, July 22, 2017 at four o'clock in the evening. The ceremony took place at Couch Chapel at First United Methodist Church in Shreveport, Louisiana, officiated by Reverends Caroline Wilkinson and Anna Morris Jackson. Music for the ceremony was performed by organist Bruce Power. Anna is the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Kevin Hadley of Elkridge, Maryland. She is the granddaughter of Reverend Anna Morris Jackson of Mansfield, Louisiana and Reverend Willie Jackson Jr. of Shreveport, Louisiana.
