Mansfield Lions Count Their Blessings and Celebrate Thanksgiving

Rev. Delman Rogers, pastor of the San Patricio Baptist Church, was guest speaker for the Mansfield Lions Club as they celebrated Thanksgiving, complete with a Thanksgiving feast, at their regular bi-monthly meeting for November. Rev. Rogers reminded members that through our trials in life, and the sacrifices of many, God is always with us to comfort, protect and guide us during our days on Earth. Mansfield Christmas Parade Date Draws Nearer

Santa’s Elves and the Mansfield Alive! Committee have been hard at  work with planning and decorating for the 2013 City of Mansfield Christmas Parade. The annual event will be held on the second Saturday of December, which falls on December 14, beginning at 2:00 PM. Organizers invite you to come celebrate the Season with them, with the annual event even bigger and better than last year.

Brenda Powell and Raymond Jones Wed

In a brief and solemn ceremony officiated by the Reverend L.J. Mayweather, Raymond Jones and Brenda Powell, both of Mansfield, Louisiana, were married in the bride’s home on October 26, 2013 at 4 p.m. The bride wore a satin animal print suit with a gathered ruffled collar. The groom wore black slacks and a dress black shirt with inlaid stripes of the same color

BackAlley Theatre Ushers in Christmas Season with Gospel/Bluegrass Christmas Show

John Neilson and Kim Litton will bring back the Singing Sanders Family as Burl and Vera Sanders in the December Christmas show at BackAlley Theatre. Running Dec 5,6,7 and 12 ,13 at the theater inGrand Cane and Dec. 14 at theCalhoun Center in Mansfield, the play showcases 20 beautiful Christmas songs with a bluegrass sound. Tickets are $10 and reservations can be made by calling 872-6373 or 461-8684.

DeSoto Arts Council Featured Artist for November

DeSoto Arts Council’s Feature Artist for December is Barbara Piazza. Ms. Barbara will kick off her month of art presentation and sales on December 7th from 10am–2pm. Refreshments will be served. This opening coincides with Grand Cane’s Pioneer Christmas Parade; avery popular one day event scheduled from 10am-2pm. Her goods will remain on sale at the DeSoto Arts Gallery through the month of December!

Rocking Horses on Display at Mansfield Main Library

During the month of November, Jeanine Enterkin’s collection of rocking horses, which she calls “rocky horses,” will be on display at the Mansfield Main Library. She began collecting in 1981 after she received a little red wooden rocking horse as a Christmas gift and now has over 40. She purchased some, but many were gifts from friends. Some of her favorites include a tiny crystal “rocky”, a smaller metal horse and a white porcelain horse with a red rocker (which she broke but loved it so much she kept the horse) and she even has large ones kids can ride.

Books and Biscuits read German Novel “The Reader”

Books and Biscuits Book Club chose as its November read “The Reader” by Bernard Schlink, a novel originally published in Germany and dealing with the Holocaust. The group met at the Cook-Hill House for lunch and book discussion on November 5, 2013. There were eighteen ladies present as Patricia Smithy led the book discussion. “The Reader,” originally published in Germany, was the story of fifteen- year- old Michael and his relationship with Hanna, a woman twice his age. Hanna has secrets: one of which is that she cannot read. The lengths she goes to, to conceal this fact are life changing. Her other dark secret is reveled years later when she is on trial for her part in the Holocaust as a guard.

MHS FBLA Holds Office Installation and Induction Ceremony

Mansfield High School’s Chapter of the Future Business Leaders of America held its officer installation and member induction ceremony on Tuesday, September 24, at 6:00 p.m. in the MHS Library. The MHS Chapter of FBLA currently boasts a membership of 90 members. The program began with a welcome from Colbren Thomas, MHS President, followed by the invocation by Homer High School’s President Norman Brown. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Nicklus Reed.

Logansport Chamber of Commerce Members Catch Hay Fever

Logansport Chamber of Commerce President Sissy Morris and Vice President John Russell, as well Chamber members from N. J. Caraway and Company (Janet Palmer), and Rocking E Tack, Décor and More (Debbie Amox and Wayne and Betty Evans) were joined by other interested residents that wanted to give Logansport a festive Fall look.
