Calling all end of the year High Ability Fourth Graders in DeSoto Parish

Time is fast approaching for GetSet, a high quality educational experience for exceptional students. This summer enrichment program will begin May 30, 2017 from 8:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on the campus of the DeSoto High School Alumni Association Multicultural Community Center located at 1216 Old Jefferson Hwy. in Mansfield.

North DeSoto High School has had four Fishing Teams that have qualified to go to compete in out of state tournaments. Team one (Brett Wray and Kasey Anderson) will go to Kentucky Lake, and will fish in the High School BASS Masters Nationals.

Also, three teams will be going to Pickwick Lake in Alabama. They are Tyler Pate and Luke Herring, Garrett Brown and Nic Packett, and Kyle McAllen and Ethan Howe. These three teams will fish the TBF Nationals/World finals.

On Saturday, April 1, there will be no fooling around when names are drawn for the various guns that the Logansport High School Baseball Team has sold raffle tickets for during the last several weeks. Tickets are $100.00 each and will be available for purchase up until it’s time to begin the drawing. The guns were locally purchased in DeSoto Parish at R-P Outdoor Store in Mansfield, which is located on Polk Street. There will only be 300 tickets printed for the event, with only a few tickets remaining.

The 2017 Tiger Baseball Team is currently ranked Number 1 in the State, with a record of 16-3, as of this writing. They have scored 242 runs in 19 games (this information also probably changed since this writing, with more games played). The coaching staff for this great group of talented athletes includes Head Coach Dustyn Parker, who is assisted by Kyle Creech, Jason Wheless, and Brian Anderson.

After breaking Northwestern State’s 40-year-old career scoring mark and leading the Demons to three victories, including a pair over the Southland Conference champion and a runner-up, senior swingman Zeek Woodley was voted the Louisiana collegiate men’s Player of the Week Monday afternoon.

In his final two games last week, Woodley averaged 24.5 points, shot 52 percent from the floor, 45 percent on 3-pointers and 94 percent (16- 17) at the free throw line, averaging six rebounds and 2.5 assists as NSU won at Stephen F. Austin 72-67 Thursday night and rolled past Central Arkansas 97-83 Saturday afternoon on Senior Day at Prather Coliseum.

The Logansport Tigers participated in a weekend baseball tournament (February 24-25) hosted by Bossier. During the Friday night game, the Tigers defeated Jonesboro Hodge, and returned to play North Caddo on Saturday morning, which was also a Tiger victory

The State Wrestling Championship was held on Friday, February 10, and ended on Saturday, February 11. Chase Bates of North Desoto High School won the state wrestling title in the 152 lbs. class.
