Wolverines Shutout the Gators for Homecoming

Article Image Alt Text

By Antwone Jacobs

This past Friday, the Mansfield Wolverines celebrated Homecoming. Homecoming is a time when past graduation classes return to their old high schools to reunite with old friends, relive their youth, and show their school spirit as they watch their alma mater win the football game.

This week, the classes of ’78, ’88, ’98, and ‘08 were welcomed home as the Wolverines hosted the Lakeview Gators. Mansfield came into the game looking to build momentum from last week’s 42-20 win over the Green Oaks Giants while Lakeview was searching for their first win of the season. Homecoming is always full of excitement, pageantry and school spirit. This year, Homecoming day festivities got started a little earlier.

Mansfield Wolverines Play Against Carroll Bulldogs

Article Image Alt Text

By Antwone Jacobs

Coming off of a 49-12 victory over the Huntington Raiders, Friday Coach Mike Green and the Mansfield Wolverines (1-1) football team hosted the Carroll Bulldogs (1- 1). The Wolverines took to the field without starting quarterback LaKendrick Ross. He is recovering from a shoulder injury he suffered during last week's game late in the first half. He probably miss 2-4 weeks. Mansfield was also without starting receiver Jamal Jackson after he injured his thumb in the same game. Despite losing two starters, the Wolverines fought hard but fell to the Bulldogs 26-18.

The game was much closer than the final score would indicate. The teams traded scores for most of the game but the Wolverines could not stop the Bulldogs rushing attack allowing a total of 186 yards and 3 touchdowns. Mansfield trailed 20- 18 at halftime.
