Stanley High School Hosts Hoops for Heroes

Stanley Panthers and Lady Panthers hosted their first "Hoops For Heroes" basketball shootout on Dec. 19. Proceeds from this game were sent directly to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital from Stanley High School. Stanley, Logansport, Zwolle, Negreet, Summerfield and Ebarb’s Basketball Teams participated.

Stanley Boys took on Ebarb. Ebarb played hard and beat Stanley 67-47.

Stanley Boys started the game off by scoring 6 points in the first quarter. Ebarb scored 15. In the second quarter, Stanley scored 16 points while Ebarb scored 15 points. Stanley scored 13 points in the third quarter. Ebarb scored 17 points. In the final quarter, Stanley scored 12 more points. Ebarb scored an additional 20 points and won the game—67 to 47.

Central Pioneers Crush Tallulah

Freshman Will Bagley had a huge night as he lead the Pioneers with a career high of 16 points in a 73-47 victory over the Tallulah Academy Trojans.

Following behind Bagley was senior Macon Murphy with 13 points, junior Drake Holmes with 8 points, junior Adam Campbell and senior John Cunningham with 6.

Stanley Girls Outscore St. Mary’s

Stanley’s girls’ basketball team traveled to Natchitoches to take on St. Mary’s on Tuesday, Dec. 12. After getting a huge lead in the first quarter, Stanley stayed ahead throughout the game. St. Mary’s tried to catch up, but it wasn’t enough to beat Stanley. The game ended with Stanley winning 67- 47.

In the first quarter, Stanley scored 19 points while St. Mary’s scored only 6. In the second quarter, Stanley and St. Mary’s each scored 16 points. Stanley advanced their early lead by scoring another 23 points in the third quarter. St. Mary’s scored 5 points.

Tigers Season Ends with Semi Final Loss 34-18

The Logansport Tigers 2017 season came to an end this past Friday night in Edgard, Louisiana with a 34-18 loss to the West St John Rams. The Rams came into the game as the number 1 seed in the Class A Playoffs. The win ended the Tigers 27 game winning streak that included 2 District 3-1A Championships and the Class A State Championship last season. The 18 point is the fewest the Tigers have scored in a game since the 2013 season. The current Tiger seniors finished their careers with a 42-11 record truly an amazing 4 year run and nothing to hang their head about.

Tigers Defeat Wildcats 40-18 in Quarterfinals

The Logansport Tigers earned a return trip to the Semi finals with a convincing 40-18 win over the visiting Varnado Wildcats. The win improved the Tigers record to 13-0. In the Semifinals, the Tigers will travel to Edgard, LA to take on the West St John Rams. Wes St John is the number 1 seed in the playoffs and the Tigers are the fifth seed. This will be the 3rd meeting all time between the 2 schools with the first 2 also being in the semi finals. Logansport lost in 1993 at home and traveled to Edgard in 1994 and also fell to the Rams. Against Varnado, the Tiger offense rolled up a season high 580 yards while the defense limited the Wildcats to 237 yards.

North DeSoto Playoff Run Has Come to an End

The Griffins were in the 2nd round of the playoffs this week and they had to travel down to New Orleans to take on the #4 seed Warren Easton. North DeSoto was big underdogs coming into this game, but they also had some people who thought they could pull off the ultimate upset. The Griffins knew they had to leave everything out on the field if they wanted to see the 3rd round of playoffs.

Tigers Continue to Roll with 48-0 Win Over Homer

The Logansport Tigers continued their march to another state championship with a dominating 48-0 win over the Homer Pelicans. Next up for the Tigers is a quarterfinal game versus the Varnado Wildcats. The Tigers carry a 12-0 record into the game along with a 26 game winning streak. Varnado has an 8-3 record. These 2 teams met last year in the quarterfinals with Logansport taking a 50-14 victory. The Tiger defense, which earned their 5th shutout of the season limited the Pelicans to 113 yards of total offense while forcing 4 turnovers.

Logansport received the opening kickoff and drove 75 yards in 5 plays to take the early lead. On the fifth play of the drive Tresmin Brown broke free for a 47 yard touchdown run. Austin Edgar added the extra point for a 7-0 lead with 10:11 left in the opening quarter.

Logansport Opens Playoffs with 52-0 Shutout Win

In the opening round of the Class 1A playoffs in 2015, the Logansport Tigers opened up against North Central Hurricanes. In that game the Tigers scored a school playoff record of 59 points on their way to a 59-0 win. Flash forward to 2017 and the Tigers are the defending Class 1A State Champions. On again the North Central Hurricanes came into town to open the playoffs. This year was a different score but the same result as the Tigers came away with a 52-0 win. Logansport was able to race to a 32-0 first quarter lead. The host Tigers added 14 more in the second quarter for all of the scoring in the game. In the second half, the teams agreed to play 5 minute quarters. In the second round of the playoffs the Tigers will travel to Homer to take on the Pelicans, who upset LaSalle in the first round.
