Sheriff Rodney Arbuckle has reported of an arrest following an investigation into the possession of child pornography

On February 17, 2017, a concerned subject contacted the investigations division in reference to possible inappropriate contact on school property between a youth minister and a juvenile. An investigation was opened and detectives learned the suspected juvenile was actually a young adult. During the investigation, investigators learned the contact had not been on school property. Detectives located child pornography on cellular devices belonging to both individuals.

As the ten day special session comes to a close, House Republicans are claiming the session was a victory for their ideals.

"With the passage of Speaker Barras' Bond Redemption resolution, House Republicans have instituted one of the most important budget reforms that has been passed in more than a decade," Chairman of the House Republican Delegation Lance Harris (R-Alexandria) said. "This resolution could ensure up to $90 million is freed up in the state's general fund every fiscal year going forward."

Sheriff Rodney Arbuckle and Mansfield Police Chief Gary Hobbs have reported an arrest following an investigation into a shooting on Canary Street in Mansfield. At about 8:00 p.m., on Sunday, February 26, 2017, a subject approached a residence on Canary Street and began vandalizing a vehicle. The homeowner had previous issues with vandalism and noticed the subject outside of his residence.

DeSoto Fire District 1 Chief Rusty Canton has announced that DFD1 will host a blood drive for Jody and Veronica Warren, and their newborn premie, Riley Jane, on Saturday, March 11 from 10:00 AM until 2:00 PM in DFD1’s Training Room. The fire station is located at 300 Marshall Road in Logansport. Riley has two older sisters, Bentley and Keleigh, who are so proud of their little sister. Veronica had been hospitalized during the month of February as a result of complications with her pregnancy.

The group’s regular meeting time is on the first Friday of the month at 12:00 PM at the DeSoto Regional Health Center’s Conference Room, which is conveniently located adjacent to the cafeteria. On February 15, the DeSoto Parish Sheriff’s Office was contacted by the regional Federal Aviation Administration office (FAA) regarding a missing helicopter. Reportedly, the helicopter had left the Shreveport Downtown Airport in route to Center, Texas around 12:00 AM but had failed to reach its destination. The FAA advised based off of information available to them when contact was lost with the aircraft around 12:20 AM.

At the regular meeting of the DeSoto Parish Police Jury on February 14, two employees were honored with their years of employment. Stanley Woodley was honored for 20 years of service while Robert Bratcher was recognized for 31 years. Also, Randall Muench was presented a proclamation honoring his late mother’s memory. Madlyn Muench was remembered as citizen that loved Mansfield and DeSoto Parish and served on various committees and boards throughout her lifetime.

During their regular meeting on February 14, the Stonewall Town Council voted to abolish their police department with thirty-two visitors present ready to hear the council’s decision. Several of the visitors voiced their opposition of disbanding the Stonewall Police Department, asking that the council look for budget cuts elsewhere. Mayor Waldon once again explained that they had cut staff at the town office in addition to the Road Department and were operating on as few people as possible. Due to the non-existence of reoccurring revenue from sales tax, the town simply could not afford to keep SPD, with additional funds required for MPERS.

DeSoto First District 1 and spouses gathered on Saturday, February 4 to celebrate 30 years of brotherhood. The original Logansport Volunteer Fire Department began many years ago, and evolved to its present day location and title. DeSoto FD1 is presently located on the Marshall Highway in Logansport. Beginning in the 1960’s it was located in downtown Logansport where the garage by Town Hall is located.

The DeSoto Parish School System was well represented with great Student of the Year candidates from across the district. This year, the selection committee has named Hunter Bates, from North DeSoto, as the district winner. He will now advance in competition, facing off against students from throughout the region. “I’ve had the honor to watch Hunter realize his potential through both middle and high school,” said Dr. Cade Brumley, DeSoto Parish Superintendent.
