Early Voting Dates to Continue, Ending November 14

Early voting for the November 21, 2015 election began on November 7, and will continue through November 14 at the DeSoto Registrar of Voters Office with the exception of Sunday, November 8, and Wednesday, November 11, which is Veterans Day. You will need to bring your driver’s license or a generally recognized photo ID. Hours are 8:30 AM until 6:00 PM. Also, the deadline to request a mail ballot is November 17, and must be received at the ROV’s office by November 20.

DeSoto Habilitation Services, formerly Arc of DeSoto, is a nonprofit organization that has provided a variety of services for people with developmental disabilities in DeSoto Parish for over 39 years.

LCF Receives Permanent Santa House

Logansport Christmas Festival Chairman (LCF) Debbie Amox excitedly has announced that Santa himself received a gift on the Sabine Riverfront. Johnny and Sarah Alford, owners of Perdido Sunset, constructed a permanent house just for Santa and his young visitors. More “elves” from Ricky Smithʼs Wrecker Service in Joaquin moved the building to its new home.

Mansfield High School Receives Record Academic Performance

In the State of Louisiana, public schools receive letter grades based on their performance in several factors. This year, Mansfield High School has earned a grade of B from the Louisiana State Department of Education. Having moved from a grade of D, the new label is the highest performance score Mansfield High has ever received in the accountability era.

VFW and DPPJ to Dedicate Veterans’ Monument on Courthouse Lawn

On Thursday, November 12, at 11:00 AM, the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) and the DeSoto Parish Police Jury will dedicate a veterans’ monument on the lawn of the DeSoto Parish Courthouse. VFW Post 4586 of Mansfield has purchased the monument and the DPPJ prepared a location and completed sidewalks so that the public can walk up to and view the tribute.

Central School Corporation’s Annual Pioneer Bazaar Set for This Saturday

Organizers have announced that the 2015 Annual Pioneer Bazaar and Community Trade Day will be held on Saturday, October 31, from 10:00 AM until 2:00 PM in the Central gymnasium.

Voters Re-Elect Arbuckle as Sheriff with Runoffs Imminent for Various Local and State Officials

With a low turnout of around 50%, DeSoto Parish voters have let their voices be heard by electing a Sheriff, Police Jurors and State Officials as well as voting on four amendments to the state constitution. Several local and state officials will face runoffs on November 21.
