MPD Assistant Chief Joseph Pratt Honored with Retirement Party

DeSoto Whitetails Unlimited Announce Plans for Local Banquet

Whitetails Unlimited (WTU) is sponsoring the DeSoto Parish Banquet on Friday, February 26, at David Means 4H Building, 10117 Highway 171, Grand Cane. This special event will feature a barbecue dinner, auction, and prizes with a wide array of products such as firearms, outfitter packages, hunting and outdoor-related equipment, artwork, and collectibles only available at WTU events.

DeSoto Schools Tap Ashworth to Lead Business Department

The DeSoto Parish School System has named Donayle Ashworth as Director of Business Services. This post was formerly held by Steven Stanfield, who recently retired, for three decades. In her new capacity, Ashworth will work with the Superintendent in developing, implementing, and maintaining the highest standards possible in the area of sound fiscal management.

Logansport-Joaquin Residents Witness History in the Making with Hwy 84 Bridges

With little or no fanfare, residents of Logansport and Joaquin may have driven across the Hwy 84 Sabine River Bridge one last time, without knowing it would be their final run. On January 19, the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) opened the new bridge with what seemed to be no prior notice sent to the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (LaDOTD).

CAD Women’s 12th Annual MLK Jr. Breakfast Seats Over 400 in Attendance

The CAD (Committed, Active, Dedicated) Women of DeSoto Parish held its 12th Annual MLK, Jr. Breakfast on Monday, January 18th at the Mansfield Elementary/Middle School. Approximately 400 people braved the morning chill to attend this annual event. The MC for the occasion was Thaddeus Cooper. Mansfield High School students, Naudia Price and Ja’Kayla Wilson wowed the audience with song and poetry.

DPSO Searches for Owner of Loose Equine

Lt. James Clements of the DeSoto Parish Sheriff’s Office has reported that they are trying to located the owner of a horse that was running loose on January 11 on Model Road in South Mansfield. The horse is described as a black mare, wearing a green halter, with a white, blaze face.

The DeSoto Chamber of Commerce hosted a Ribbon Cutting and Grand Opening Ceremony for Stonewall’s newest business, DeSoto Physical Therapy on December 15. Officials, members of the Chamber, friends and family gathered to make the grand opening a memorable one. The owners of DeSoto PT are Doug James, PT, DPT and his wife Sabrina. The James’ have two young daughters, Addy and Bailey.

Ernel Jones Elected DPPJ President

At the January 11 DeSoto Parish Police Jury meeting, juror for District 4-C, Ernel Jones, was elected to serve as President of the Parish’s governing body for 2016. He previously has served as Vice President as well as Finance Committee Chairman. Jones is married to City of Mansfield Assistant Clerk Gwen Jones and has resided in Mansfield for twelve years.

DeSoto Court System Implements “I Jury” System

According to Clerk of Court Jeremy Evans, the court system in DeSoto Parish has taken a major step in the selection of potential jurors. The “I Jury” system has been implemented and will prequalify potential jurors without the time-consuming qualifications. In the age of electronics and cell phones, I Jury will be beneficial to all parties concerned.
