DeSoto Parish Scholars Recognized at 2018 Elite Scholars Banquet

DeSoto Parish recognized this year’s graduating elite scholars as the 2018 Elite Scholar Banquet. The students were recognized and received a plaque for being named an elite scholar.

Coordinator of Student Learning Tammy Morris opened the program with a greeting. DeSoto Parish School Board President Dudley Glenn gave the welcoming. DeSoto Parish School Board member L. J. Mayweather Jr. said the invocation. North DeSoto High School JROTC and 1st Sergeant Jeffrey Scott presented the colors. DeSoto Parish School Board Vice President Bobby Boyd led the pledge of allegiance. Director of Human Resources Deb Gamble recognized guests. Coordinator of Student Learning Misty Davis prepared the dinner.

DPSO Provides Security Forum for Churches

Sheriff Jayson Richardson wanted to thank everyone who was in attendance for the church security forum on March 26. During the presentation, attendees were taught about active threat solutions for Religious Organizations.

This presentation entailed discussion related to the history of active shooters and covered topics such as responding to active threats, gathering information to pass on to first responders, and tactical considerations involved in active threats.

TAP Founder’s Award Finalists Recognized at National Conference

Washington, D.C.—At the 2018 TAP Conference, the National Institute for Excellence in Teaching (NIET) today recognized each of the five finalists of the TAP Founder’s Award for exceptional efforts to implement and represent the principles of the TAP System for Teacher and Student Advancement. These efforts have resulted in improvements in instructional skills and student achievement. The Award is NIET’s highest honor and was created by NIET Chairman and TAP Founder Lowell Milken.

DeSoto Parish Sheriff Rodney Arbuckle Retires

DeSoto Parish Sheriff Rodney Arbuckle announced his retirement on March 15 after serving the last 37 years in law enforcement, including 17 years as sheriff.

Arbuckle’s last day of work was March 16. He said he choose to retire this way so he would not change his mind. He has contemplated retiring for a year.

Stonewall Town Council Introduces 3 Ordinances at Meeting

The Town of Stonewall introduced three rules and regulation ordinances during new business at their meeting on March 13. All three ordinances were approved and will be voted on at their next meeting.

The first ordinance provided rules and regulations concerning the prohibition of peddlers and solicitors.

Sheriff Arbuckle Announces Retirement

DeSoto Parish Sheriff Rodney Arbuckle released a statement on March 15 announcing his retirement. He has been serving as DeSoto Parish's sheriff for the last 17 years. In his absence, Chief Deputy Jayson Richardson has been appointed sheriff.

According to his statement, “I just want to thank the citizens of DeSoto Parish for the opportunity to serve as your Sheriff for the last 17 years. After much prayer and conversation with my family, I have decided to retire effective March 16, 2018. After 36 years of service in Law Enforcement, I feel it is time to explore other things in life. Recently, I became a grandpa to a grandchild that has experienced health issues. This has caused me to change my outlook as to what is important. During this time, my oldest son also started a law practice and will be handling criminal cases in DeSoto Parish Court system. I do not want the appearance of a conflict of interest.

Local Clerk Elected as State Municipal Clerk Association President

Mansfield–Ann-Marie Eaves, LMMC, the municipal clerk for the Village of Grand Cane, has become the Louisiana Municipal Clerks Association’s new 2018- 2019 president. She was announced this honor at the 58th Annual Conference for the Louisiana Municipal Clerks Association, held March 1-2 at the Shreveport Convention Center in Shreveport.

The LMCA Annual Conference is a two-day continued education conference for municipal clerks and assistant clerks seeking to work on their basic and advanced certification efforts.

Brumley Tapped to Lead Louisiana’s Largest School System

At a Monday night meeting of the Jefferson Parish School Board, Dr. Cade Brumley was voted unanimously as the system’s next Superintendent. Brumley currently leads the DeSoto Parish School System, a post he’s held since 2012.
