Fire District 3’s Annual Pancake Breakfast Fundraiser October 3rd

Fire District 3 in Stonewall’s Third Annual Pancake Breakfast fundraiser, to be held in conjunction with the Bee Gum Festival, is set for Saturday, October 3, from 6:00 AM until 10:00 AM. Plates will consist of pancakes, W. D. Blackburn syrup, Downhome® sausage, and Borden’s® milk and orange juice for $5.00, which is an all you can eat price.

Stonewall’s 2015 Bee Gum Festival Set for this Saturday

Fall is officially here bringing with it much welcomed cooler weather, football and other activities. In Stonewall, it means its “Bee Gum” time, with the popular festival set for this year on October 3, running from 6:00 AM until 6:00 PM. Bee Gum Festival Chairman Steve Wilkinson and his team of volunteers have worked long and hard to make the 2015 fest the best yet. The event kicks off with DeSoto Fire District 3’s annual all you can eat pancake breakfast that is held in conjunction each year with the Bee Gum Festival. From 6:00 AM until 10:00 AM, you can dine on pancakes, sausage and the beverage of your choice for a $5.00 donation. Fire District 3 is also known as the Stonewall Volunteer Fire Department in the area. This is their main fundraiser for 2015, and all donations are needed and appreciated.

HGCA “Cruising Grand Cane” Car Show Slated for October 17

Since the Historic Grand Cane Association first presented “Cruisin’ in Grand Cane!” in 2012, the event has proven to be extremely popular with the public and vehicle/tractor enthusiasts. This year’s show will be held on October 17th. Classic and antique cars, trucks and tractors will be displayed in historic downtown Grand Cane from 9:00AM until 2:00PM. This event is free to the public. To participate, organizer and event chairman, Dianne Mason, stated that entries in the event are limited to those that are thirty years and older – 1985 model and prior. Pre-registrations are now being accepted at the reduced fee of $20.00 with a discount for multiple entries.

DPPJ Approves Two New Compactor Sites in Oxford and Clear Lake Areas

Land has been leased for construction of two new compactor sites in DeSoto Parish thanks to property owners who executed long-term leases with the DeSoto Parish Police Jury. One will be at the Clear Lake Boat Launch on LA 509 with the other to be placed at the intersection of LA 346 and LA 513 at Oxford. Signs have already been placed at the locations and work will begin shortly. The cost of these two new sites was projected to be between $900,000 and $1,100,000, however, after bid openings Regional Construction came in with a low bid under $900,000.

Frierson Man Found Guilty of Second Degree Murder

A DeSoto Parish jury returned an 11-1 vote to find Dalduran Brandon of Frierson guilty of Second Degree murder on Thursday, September 17. The crime occurred in February 2014, when an armed robbery and murder took place in the Gloster residence of 79-year-old Nathaniel Cash, who was a longtime employee of the DeSoto Parish Police Jury.

Sixth Annual Fly-In Set for this Saturday at C. E. “Rusty” Williams Airport

The Sixth Annual Fly-In is set for Saturday, September 19 from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM at the C. E. “Rusty” Williams Airport, with the DeSoto Parish Police Jury and airport copresenting the event. Airport manager, Randi Walding, has been working hard to present the 2015 edition of the Fly-In, with several items added to this year’s event.
