Dwena Henry, a resident and Alderwoman of Stanley, was severely injured when her house on Hwy. 763 caught fire last week.

According to DeSoto Parish Fire District #5 Chief Todd Kreamer, a leak in the gas line behind Henry’s stove caused natural gas to fill her house. When the stove was lit with a fire stick, the gas ignited, causing the house to explode.

Henry was rushed by ambulance to University Health Burn Unit. As of Sept. 25, she was still in critical condition. Also injured were William Roe and Sharon Fletcher. Fletcher is Henry’s daughter and Village of Stanley Mayor.

Fire District #5 responded to the fire. With the help of Fire District #1, they extinguished the fire.

DeSoto Parish Fire Investigation was called out to the property to investigate what happened.

Thomas Houston with DeSoto Parish Fire Investigation said that the house appears to have been an accident, and they believe some explosive event happened.

Technical College Shares Vision for Mansfield Campus

Article Image Alt Text

Despite going through some changes due to the state budget, Northwest Louisiana Technical College is moving forward with a vision to improve and better focus on the technical college’s Mansfield Campus. Their vision focuses on the flexibility and needs of the community and customized facilities.

To accomplish this vision, new Director Earl Meador has kept Interim Director Dianne Clark on as Chief Workforce Development Officer/ Campus Dean for the Mansfield Campus to have someone stationed at their smaller, rural campus with hopes of revitalizing it.

Every community is different, so administration plans to give the DeSoto Parish community what they need and not just what they think they need.

Administration is trying to think outside the box and fine-tune their programs to match the community needs.
