An $8.00 ticket will buy you dinner of catfish, potato salad, baked beans, dessert and either bottled water or a soft drink. State and Local Offices to be Determined on Saturday, October 24

On October 24, DeSoto Parish citizens will join voters statewide to determine who will be the next governor, along with the state offices of Lieutenant Governor, Secretary of State, Attorney General, Treasurer, Commissioner of Agriculture and Forestry and Commissioner of Insurance. Runoffs are predicted in several of these races, with the final decision for offices to be made in the November 21 election.

The DeSoto Parish Chamber of Commerce hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony on Friday, October 22, for City Feed and Garden Center with the grand opening celebration held the following day. Those visiting the store were offered hot dogs  with all the trimmings, along with cookies and punch.

On Saturday, October 24, a one mile walk and balloon release have been planned to raise awareness about domestic violence. Area residents are invited to meet at the Logansport riverfront at 8:00 AM to join in support of this cause, benefiting Project Celebration/Taylor House, which aid victims of domestic violence in various capacities.

“Fifty Mile Trail of Treasures” to be Held Saturday, October 10

The eagerly awaited inaugural “50 Mile Trail of Treasures” will take place this coming Saturday, October 10 from 8:00 AM until 3:00 PM. Interested parties have been contacting co-chairs Tommy McMellon and Julie Morris to find out information about participating in the first of its kind in DeSoto Parish and Eastern Shelby County. In the event of rain, the Trail of Treasures will be held on October 17. Last minute vendors will be happily accepted in any of the communities that are on the Hwy 171 and Hwy 84 route.

DeSoto Fire District 9 Ladies Auxiliary to Host Political Forum this Saturday

The DeSoto Fire District 9 Ladies Auxiliary will host a political forum for various candidates in the upcoming election to be held on October 24. The forum will be held on October 3 at Frierson Baptist Church, located at 299 East Street in Frierson. The meet and greet will start at 5:30 PM, with the forum to immediately follow at 6:00 PM. Each candidate will have five minutes to speak and have an additional five minutes to field questions from the audience.
