Pelican Library Displays Pelican- All Saints High School Trophies

The Pelican Branch Library has trophies and plaques from Pelican All Saints High School on display for the summer. The trophies and plaques range from basketball, baseball to track, 4- H, etc. They are dated between the 1970’s to the most recent basketball state championship trophy awarded in 2013, before closure. The Pelican Branch Library is located at 145 Jackson Street Pelican, LA. Stop by and check them out! Library hours are Monday 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.,

Jennifer Simmons of Stonewall Among Athletes that Competed in ACRANC Regatta

Northwestern State University had two boats competing in the American Collegiate Rowing Association National Championship Regatta May 28-29 on Lake Lanier in Gainesville, Georgia. Competitors included the Women’s Varsity 4+ boat with rowers Jami LeBlanc of Jennings, Melissa Pesacreta of Lafayette, Glory Deaton of Pineville, Holly Smith of Baton Rouge, and coxed by Nicole Plunkett of New Orleans.

LHS Athlete Kameron Chatman Signs with Wiley College

Logansport High School athlete Kameron Chatman recently signed a baseball scholarship with Wiley College in Marshall, Texas. The four-year letterman was a three time district player and maintained a 3.0 grade point average. Seated at the table are Kameron (on right), along with his mother, (on right), along with his mother, Dorothy Chatman.

“Gamechanger: The Kenneth Harvey Story”

On November 13, 1964, the small town of Logansport, Louisiana, was changed; never to be the same. Our local hero and football quarterback, Kenneth Harvey, was injured making a seemingly routine tackle, but forever paralyzed from the brain stem contusion injury. He would never walk again. In 2009, a group of friends, classmates, and coaches honored Kenneth with a celebration of his life and even erected a monument in his honor at the current site of the Tiger football field. Somehow, this still didn’t feel like enough.

Girls Softball Team Holds June 4 Hamburger Fundraiser

Velocity Elite Softball 18U travel team is an organization that has a proud tradition of developing girls' softball skills as well as a history of fielding competitive girls that enjoy success locally, regionally, and nationally. Velocity Elite Softball is compromised of 15 dedicated athletes from DeSoto, Caddo, Webster, Bossier, and Franklin Parish. Velocity Elite Softball isholding a Hamburger Fundraiser on June 4, 2016 from 11am to 2pm at Community Bank of Louisiana Parking Lot - 211 Main Street in Logansport, to raise money to enable them to fully participate in local, regional, state, and national softball tournaments. Hamburger lunch includes Hamburger, Chips, Dessert, and Drink for $8.00. All proceeds will be given to Velocity Elite Softball to be used for tournament and umpire fees.

Lady Griffins Treated to Crawfish Boil to Honor 2016 State Championship Title

Sheriff Rodney Arbuckle and the DeSoto Parish Sheriff’s Department recently hosted an event at the DPSD’s Training Facility to congratulate the North DeSoto Softball Team for winning the state championship. Local citizens sponsored a crawfish dinner for the Lady Griffins in appreciation for bringing home the State Championship.

With such a sparkling resume, many fans’ expectations for VanDam are much higher.
