DeSoto Students Place in 2019 FLW High School Fishing Sam Rayburn Reservoir Open

A field of 57 teams competed in the no-entry fee 2019 Bass Pro Shops FLW High School “Fishing Sam Rayburn Reservoir Open” tournament, which launched from Cassels-Boykin Park in Zavalla. The tournament was hosted by the Lufkin Convention and Visitors Bureau. In FLW and TBF High School Fishing competition, the top 10-percent of teams competing advance to the High School Fishing National Championship.

The top five teams on Sam Rayburn Reservoir that advanced to the 2019 High School Fishing National Championship were:

1st: Thrall High School, Thrall, Texas – Ryan Grisham, Taylor, Texas, and Christian Dubec, Thrall, Texas, five bass, 17-5

2nd: Magnolia West High School, Magnolia, Texas – Jaxon Leonard and Christian Copher, both of Magnolia, Texas, five bass, 16-10

National Football Foundation Honors DeSoto’s Lormand and Thomas

The Board of Directors of the S.M. McNaughton Chapter of the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame, Leo Sanford, Bob Aillet, Toni Goodin, Curt Joiner, Tag Rome, Bill McConathy and Jerry Byrd Jr. would like to announce our upcoming annual scholar athlete banquet will be held on Thursday March 7, 2019 at East Ridge Country Club. Tickets are $40 and a table of eight is $320.

The National Football Foundation was established in 1947 with the mission to promote and develop the power of amateur football in developing the qualities of leadership, sportsmanship, competitive zeal and the drive for academic excellence in America’s young people.

NDWA Brings Home State Championships and Team Title

North Desoto Wrestling Academy (NDWA) competed in the 2019 Middle School State Championships held in New Orleans last weekend. Placing 6 kids in the finals we came back Desoto Parish with 4 Individual State Champions and a team title. Champions are Collin Bell, Daniel Olivier, Hunter Addison and Christian Otzenburger. Second winners are place Isaac Dees Jacob Freeman 3rd place Lake Bates Jacob Cristler

Brother Martin (New Orleans) has had a good grip on the title for quite some time. Not anymore. The Griffins didn’t just beat them but a better term would be “dominated them”. With a total of 213.5 team points the second place team Brother Martin was at 160.0.
