The North DeSoto High School Quarterback Club will be hosting the 1st Annual Meet the Players Dinner Auction on August 24th at the David Means 4-H Building in Grand Cane. The doors will open at 5:30PM and dinner will be served at 6:00 with the live auction to follow.

“This is going to be an exciting, fun-filled event for the community to meet the 2019 North DeSoto Griffin football team, recognize the senior players and also introduce our new Head Coach and Athletic Director Dennis Dunn. We will also be raising funds to benefit the football team through a live and silent auction and other raffles.

Mansfield Athletic Booster Club’s firework stand is now open for business for the 2019 Fourth of July firework season. It once again is located in the Marketbasket parking lot on Washington Avenue. The booster club has been selling fireworks to raise money for the athletic club for over 30 years. The money raised goes toward the football team’s food, travel, out of town buses and scholarships.

Booster Club members volunteer their time at the firework stand because they want to help athletics and enjoy doing it.

The senior Olympics for seniors 50 years of age and older are held every other year involving all the sports of the regular Olympics. Shreveport also has a 50-59 and a 60-64 year old team competing. The 65+ team was the Champions in 2015 and 2017.

Louisiana College softball continued their excellence in the classroom during the 2018-19 academic year with 20 players earning National Fastpitch Coaches Association Academic All-American honors. To be eligible for the award players must maintain at least a 3.5 grade point average during the entire academic year in which they compete.

“Of all the many accomplishments this team had this year, this is one that I am most proud of,” Head Coach Barry Roberts said. “To have a few kids accomplish this is great, but to have 20 is amazing! ? ?”They work really hard off the field and what you will typically see, is that will carry over to the field. We talk, as a team, often, about taking care of details. This is a result of taking care of details.”

Coaches for the 7-8 boys are Justin and Casey Files, Brian and Charley Cox, and Lance Woods. Coaches for the 9-10 boys are Frankie Bartley and DJ Lafluer, and 11-12 boys are Joel Salter and Poncho Lewis.
