In the 2019 Season Opener, the Mansfield Wolverines were riding high with expectations after a Second Round Finish in the 2018 Class 2A State Playoffs. After 8 minutes into the First Quarter versus the Northwood Falcons, the Wolverines were quickly reminded that a new season brings new challenges.

Mansfield Mayor and Alderman Honor River City Track Club as Jr. Olympic Champions

Mansfield Mayor John Mayweather, Sr. and the Mansfield Board of Aldermen honored the River City Track Club at their regular meeting on Monday, August 12. The 9 and 10 year old Mansfield athletes recently traveled to Sacramento, California to compete in the USTF National Junior Olympics, and brought home First Place in the 4 by 100 Meter Relay.

Area Teams Ready to Scrimmage this Week, Are You Ready for Some Football?!

Area football teams are ready to try their athletic skills on the gridiron this week when scrimmages are played before the Jamboree and regular season football games begin.

August 22 – North DeSoto Griffins will play against Haughton in Haughton at 6:00 p.m.

August 23 – Mansfield Wolverines will travel to Shreveport to scrimmage with Woodlawn High School at 6:00 p.m.

North DeSoto QB Club 1st Annual Meet the Player Dinner Auction

The North DeSoto High School Quarterback Club will be hosting the 1st Annual Meet the Players Dinner Auction on August 24th at the David Means 4-H Building in Grand Cane. The doors will open at 5:30PM and dinner will be served at 6:00 with the live auction to follow.

“This is going to be an exciting, fun-filled event for the community to meet the 2019 North DeSoto Griffin football team, recognize the senior players and also introduce our new Head Coach and Athletic Director Dennis Dunn. We will also be raising funds to benefit the football team through a live and silent auction and other raffles. Some of the items on the auctions will be sports memorabilia, hunting trips plus much more,” said NDHS Quarterback Club president Brent Gibson.

DeSoto Athletics Fall Little League Registration Under Way

DeSoto Athletics has announced that registration for Fall Ball for both baseball and softball is under way for children ages 5 and up. The League age will be determined by the upcoming season age. For boys, it will be the age that they will be by August 31, 2020, and for girls, the age they will be by December 31, 2019. The registration fee is $50.00, which includes their team jersey.

The Fall Season will run from September 1 until October 31, and participation in Fall Ball will be like a huge practice for all players to get them ready for Spring Ball.

In Louisiana we don’t just celebrate winter, spring, summer and fall, we celebrate crawfish season, hurricane season, softball and baseball season, and last but not least, FOOTBALL Season. The stadiums will begin to fill at the end of August for Scrimmages and Jamborees before the beginning of the actual season, so here’s a glimpse of football schedules before our Football Digest highlighting each team is released.

River City Track Club’s 13-14 Girls Head to USATF National Jr. Olympics

River City Track Club’s 13-14 year old girls are headed to the USATF National Junior Olympics in Sacramento, California this week. This group of girls has trained hard all summer long to get to this point, traveling from state to state competing. They will compete in the 4x100, 4x400 relay and many other track and field races this. (submitted)
