Welsh capitalize on the fumble a few minutes later with a 6-yard rushing touchdown taking the lead 6-0 due to a missed point-after.

North DeSoto’s Season Ends with Home Upset

Article Image Alt Text

By: Madison Ruston

Playoff time is here and the only thing on the minds of the North DeSoto Griffins was to find their way to the Dome one week at a time. They had a tough match with Helen Cox coming into town. They were prepared to fight until the very end.

Quarter 1

Helen Cox got the ball to start the game. They were able to make it into the red zone, but didn’t convert the fourth down and the Griffins took over. They were moving nicely with runs from Rykendrick Simpson and Aubrey Scott before a backwards pass was recovered by Helen Cox. The Cougars didn’t take advantage of the turnover and gave it back to North DeSoto. After a very long drive by the Griffins, they made it into the end zone with a run from Rykendrick Simpson. Passes caught by Aubrey Scott and Logan Leone helped out on this drive. Griffins took the lead 7-0 with :25 seconds left.

With seven minutes remaining in the first quarter, Adrian Green caught a 32-yard pass for a touchdown. Brandon Adams successfully ran in the two-point conversion, giving Mansfield an 8-0 lead. However, the Hurricanes did squeak into the end zone with a one-yard rushing plunge.

SPORTS

The North DeSoto wrestling program will hold their 2nd Annual Daddy Duals on November 26, 2018 at 7:00 pm inside the North DeSoto High School gym. There will be four matches, a halftime, and then another set of four matches. The ninth match is being billed as the headliner, as Assistant Principal Russell Tabor will face off against Josh Sarpy. Sarpy’s entertaining callout and Tabor’s Facebook video response serve as great hype features, and the matches should be just as entertaining.

Last year, the students won the overall match against the dads. Assistant Principal Tabor states in his video that the dad’s were “taken by surprise” but he believes the newly recruited dads has given them “a pretty solid lineup top to bottom.”
