Dixie Nell Yates Gallaspy

Dixie Nell Yates Gallaspy of Bogalusa died on June 28, 2016, after a lengthy illness. She was born on Palestine Plantation southwest of Franklinton on December 12, 1934, the sixth child of Fred W. Yates and Mrs. Camille Gardner Yates. Mrs. Gallaspy graduated from Franklinton High School in 1953 as Co-Valedictorian of her class and went to Texas State College for Women where she received her Bachelor’s Degree in Art in 1957. After working as an Assistant Home Demonstration Agent in St. Landry Parish, she was employed by Mueller’s Department Store in Lake Charles in her chosen avocation as an interior designer. After moving to Bogalusa Mrs. Gallaspy established Dixie’s Designs which provided and implemented aesthetic designs for the interiors of both homes and commercial structures, with emphasis for years on the interior colors and arrangement of motion picture houses then being built throughout the South by Gulf States Theaters.

Funeral services honoring the life of William Gerald Elliott, 75, were at 2:00 PM Friday, July 1, 2016 at Northwest Louisianan Veteran Cemetery, in Keithville, LA. The family received friends at Rose- Neath Funeral Home on Thursday, June 30, 2016 from 6:00 till 9:00 PM. William was born on December 4, 1940 in Coushatta, LA to James and Mariam Elliott and passed away on June 26, 2016 in Birmingham, AL. Preceding William in death were his parents James and Mariam Elliott, and sister, Edith Marie Elliott. Those left behind to cherish his memory are his wife, Bennie Lewis Elliott; sons, Raygan Lewis, Roark Jones, Lee Jones; daughters, Deborah Elliott Ellinthorpe, Gina Patuto; sisters, Mary Clinton, Betty Gallaspy, Bonnie Free, Martha Hoover, Aussie Yates, Terri Sparks; brothers, Robert Elliott, Harold Elliott; grandchildren, Ryan Rockett, Thomas Rockett, Nick Patuto, Anna Patuto, Alex Patuto, Raven Lewis, Cheyanne Lewis, Tyler Jones; great-grandchildren, Anna Jones, and Emma Jones.

Dorothy Slay

Dorothy Slay, 63, of Mansfield, LA ascended to her heavenly home on Friday, June 10, 2016 after a very short, but hard fought battle with cancer. Visitation was held on Monday June 13th at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Mansfield from 5:00pm to 9:00pm. Services were held at 10am Tuesday, June 14th at Rose-Neath Chapel in Mansfield with Rev. Everett Kingston and Thomas Tuck officiating. Interment followed at Prude Cemetery in Stanley, LA. Mrs. Slay was born October 16, 1952 in Ringold, LA. She was a loving wife and mother, known to many as the cake lady for making the best cakes and sweets around. Dorothy was married to her best friend and husband Wain Slay for 44 years. She truly loved everyone and was always there to lend a helping hand. Dorothy was preceded in death by her mother, Katherine Ayres; father, Lester Ayres; brother, Ray Ayres; son, Phillip Slay; three nephews, Joe Ferguson; Chris "Poncho" Ferguson and Tim Ferguson.

Darren Joshua (DJ) Frazier

Memorial services honoring the life of Darren (DJ) Frazier, 25, were at 2:00 PM, Thursday, June 9, 2016 at Wallace Baptist Church, in Wallace, LA. DJ was born on September 29, 1990 to his parents, Darren and Kathy Frazier and went to be with the Lord on June 6, 2016. DJ was known by many and a friend to all. Always kind and affectionate and a true comedian. His magnetic personality and beautiful smile could light up a room. DJ was an avid outdoors man. He loved hunting, fishing, and motor cycles. He was a thrill seeker, adventurer, and fearless in every way. Larger than life. Preceding DJ in death were his paternal grandparents Neal and Ernel Frazier and daughter Isabelle Hope Frazier. Jeb Stuart “Jake” Lord, Jr

Funeral services for Jeb Stuart Lord, Jr., 89, were held at 3:00 PM, Sunday, June 12, 2016 at New Chapel Hill Baptist Church in West Monroe, LA. Rev. Jon M. Lord, Dr. Gevan Spinney, and Dr. Clovis Sturdivant officiated. Interment followed at the New Chapel Hill Baptist Church Cemetery under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Monroe. Jeb Stuart "Jake" Lord, Jr., was born on the family farm near Pelican, Louisiana on September 27, 1926 and passed from this life on June 10, 2016. He and his six siblings learned farm work while attending nearby Pelican School. He graduated from Pleasant Hill High School in 1943 and joined the Marines that fall when he was 17. After boot camp, he was assigned to the 7th Marine Regiment for the landings at Peleliu on September 15, 1944. He was wounded on Peleliu and spent his 18th birthday onboard a hospital ship. Healed up in time for Okinawa, he was promoted to Corporal and led his own squad in that campaign.
