This week the Louisiana Department of Education publicly released the results of the 2018-2019 School and District Performance Scores. Schools in Desoto Parish continue to show growth in student performance. In fact, the latest release of accountability results show that Desoto Parish leads Northwest Louisiana with District Performance Scores and is an “A” district in K-8 and High School Student Achievement Progress for a second consecutive year.

Veterans across DeSoto Parish and Shelby County will be honored at various observances along with others nationwide for Veterans Day and Veterans Awareness Week. Beginning November 8, all DeSoto Parish Schools, at various times with the exception of Stanley High School, will host programs honoring our current and past military men and women, with Joaquin High School and Central School Corporation celebrating on actual Veterans Day, November 11. Stanley High School will hold their program the day following Veterans Day (November 12) since Monday is a school holiday. The programs are to honor our current enlisted military, in addition to former and retired military. The public is encouraged to attend these events to also pay homage to our veterans. Everyone is encouraged to check on the school visitors’ sign-in policy for that day, but most schools are only requiring that you sign a sheet provided at the entrance area of the program.

November 8, 2019 Veterans’ Day Programs:

Mansfield Police Chief Annette Blue has reported that on Monday, October 28, MPD received a report around 8:00 p.m. of a pedestrian being struck by a vehicle on Hwy. 171 in Mansfield.

Chief Blue continued that the victim was either walking or running from the center turn lane on the highway when struck. The driver of the vehicle was in the southbound outside lane.

On Friday, October 25, Billy Spears was administered the Oath of Office as Constable for District 6 by DeSoto Clerk of Court Jeremy Evans. His term began that afternoon with Justice of the Peace Jerry Lowe ready for him to take on a case as soon as he left the downstairs courtroom at the DeSoto Parish Courthouse.
