International Paper, Mansfield Mill Retains OSHA VPP Star Site Status

International Paper’s (IP) a Mansfield Containerboard Mill successfully completed its Occupational Safety & Health Association (OSHA) Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) Recertification Audit and will continue to retain Star status. In a letter to Kevin Driscoll, mill manager, from Eric Harbin, acting regional administrator, OSHA Dallas, said, “We want to congratulate you on your continued safety and health excellence. We look forward to many more years of working in partnership with you and your employees.”

The Mansfield Mill has been a VPP Star site since August 10, 1994. The auditors were complimentary to the mill’s team members for their participation in safety, as well as mill leaders for their support. “This is a very significant milestone for our Mansfield Mill,” said Harold “Lynn” Youngblood, manager, Safety.

Sheriff Richardson Notifies Public of Newly Formed Street Level Interdiction Unit

Sheriff Jayson Richardson would like to notify the public of the newly formed “Street Level Interdiction Unit” (or S.L.I.U.) that is already proving successful in the removal of dangerous substances from our streets for the sake of public safety. The duties of the deputies assigned to the unit are to combat street level drug dealers while simultaneously working alongside the Tri-Parish Narcotics Taskforce. Sheriff Richardson would like to report that 13 arrests have been made, along with several misdemeanor summons and/or drug violations, by this unit in just the past two weeks. Those names, and the corresponding charges, are listed below:

1. Jacqualynn Krebbs was arrested on 09/10/2019 and charged with: No License Plate Lights; Possession of Schedule II (Meth); Possession of Schedule I (Marijuana)

2. Mikel Rea was arrested on 09/11/2019 and charged with: Improperly Displayed License Plate; Possession of Schedule III (Subutex)

Early Voting Continues Through October 5

The new early voting machines look as though they will please Millennial voters as they strongly resemble IPads or video games, but are in fact ready for voters to cast their ballots on. Early voting continues at the old Registrar of Voters Office, located at 105 Franklin Street, and at the DeSoto Parish Library Main Office, located at 109 Crosby Street, both in Mansfield. Time frame for voting at both locations is from 8:30 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. daily. The completion and installation of the handicapped ramps at the new ROV location prevented early voting from being held there.

Logansport Native Wins TCMA Country Songwriter of the Year

On Sunday September 22 the 2019 Texas Country Music Awards (TCMA) took place at Billy Bob’s Texas. Among the many winners was, Logansport native, Bryan Martin. Martin is the recipient of the 2019 TCMA Country Songwriter of the Year award. Bryan Martin is a singersongwriter who was raised in Logansport and has written numerous hit songs such as” Blending Memories & Whiskey” and “If It Was Easy”. Congratulations Bryan!
