DeSoto Canine Handlers Receive Emergency Supply Donations, Instructions to Care for K-9 Officers

On Wednesday, August 14, Dr. Keith Ratcliff made a special trip to Mansfield to meet with Sheriff Jayson Richardson, DPSO Canine Handlers and K-9 Officers, Rex and Boris. Dr. Ratcliff has been a resident of DeSoto Parish for many years and has been in the business of taking care of our beloved pets for decades. To say that he and his staff love animals would be an understatement.

42nd Judicial Chief Judge Charles Adams Courthouse Security Decision Upheld

On Friday, August 23, the Louisiana Second Court of Appeals stated their opinion regarding the dispute between District 42nd Judicial Court Chief Judge Charles Adams and District Attorney Gary V. Evans over who has authority over security at the DeSoto Parish Courthouse. The court said that it is clear that the Chief District Judge has the authority to set courthouse security procedures, unless he is challenged in court.

Logansport Chamber Welcomes Integrity Counseling with Ribbon Cutting

On Thursday, August 15, the Logansport Chamber of Commerce hosted a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony welcoming Integrity Counseling to the business community. Sonja Smith Polley, LPC, NCC is a Logansport native, and decided she wanted to bring licensed professional counseling to her hometown. She is married to Daniel Polley, who originally comes from San Augustine, Texas. They have 3 adult children and 3 grandchildren, with 3 more on the way.

Polley, who is a 1983 graduate of Logansport High School, stated that she began her adult career as a schoolteacher. While serving in that noble profession, she became aware of problems that children, parents, and even coworkers were having that the school system at that time didn’t address. She began to be drawn into the possibility of becoming a professional counselor, when God spoke to her and awakened her to follow her heart and do His will.

DeSoto Organizations Present Gyth Rigdon of “The Voice” in Concert

NBC’s “The Voice - Season 16” finalist and Nashville Recording artist Gyth Rigdon will be presented in concert on the Logansport riverfront, on October 12, 2019 during the 3rd Annual Northwest Louisiana Gumbo Cook-off & Festival, “The Battle for the Paddle”.

Gyth Rigdon has quickly found fame after being Runner-Up on Season 16 of NBC’s The Voice, but he has been sharing his mix of Country, Rock, and Soul through his albums, radio, and his high energy shows for years. He has shared the stage with major stars such as Blake Shelton, Gary Allan, Darius Rucker, Alabama, and many more. You can follow Gyth on his 2019 “When I’m Gone” Tour.

Rigdon will be followed on stage by DeSoto parish’s own regional favorites Lucas Jagneaux & The Roadshow (formally known as After Hours). Lucas was the recent winner of the 2019 TMP Songwriter’s Contest.

Candidates Qualify for Both Local and State Elections to be Held on October 12

During the time span from August 6 through 8 candidates for both local and state offices officially threw their hats into the ring for the October 12, 2019 election. In DeSoto, Assessor Anne Gannon and Sheriff Jayson Richardson were both unopposed and will retain their offices for four more years. Richardson has the distinction of being the second candidate for Sheriff to run unopposed in DeSoto Parish.

Our BESE District 4 Representative, Tony Davis (R), was unopposed as well as Rep. Larry Bagley (R) of the 7th District and Rep. Kenny Cox (D) of the 23rd District.

The 38th Senatorial District Seat currently held by John Milkovich (D) will have two other contenders, Katrina D. Early (D), and Barry Milligan (R).

DPSO Asks for Assistance in Located Missing Mansfield Man

The DeSoto Parish Sheriff’s Office is seeking the public’s assistance in locating a missing man from Mansfield. Robert Charles “Charlie” Ross Jr. is a 37-year-old black male who was last seen on July 28, 2019 in the Mansfield area. Ross is approximately 6’4” tall and weighs 225 pounds. He was also last seen wearing a white tank top and blue jeans. If you have seen Mr. Ross or know of his whereabouts, please contact the DeSoto Parish Sheriff’s Office Investigations Division at (318) 872-3956.

DeSoto Chamber Welcomes State Treasurer John M. Schroder as Guest Speaker

After a brief break during the summer months, the DeSoto Parish Chamber of Commerce will begin their monthly luncheon meetings on August 20 at 12:00 p.m. Guest speaker for the meeting will be Louisiana State Treasurer John M. Schroder, with the public cordially invited to attend. Luncheon tickets are $11.00 each, and will be catered by a DeSoto Parish restaurant yet to be named. The event is free if you wish to attend and not dine, and you do not have to be a member. Frierson Resident Arrested on Multiple Felony Charges

On July 30, 2019, the DeSoto Parish Sheriff’s Office and Tri-Parish Drug Task Force ended a three month narcotics investigation that led to a local arrest.

Justin Dean Gray (W/M - DOB: 11/16/1995) was taken into custody at his home in Frierson, after an undercover operation led to search warrants being obtained by narcotics agents.

During a search of the residence, narcotics agents located 19 containers of THC oil, 31 doses of LSD, 31 suspected mushroom capsules, 100ML bottle of liquid Promethazine (codeine), a large amount of marijuana, 2 pistols and 1 rifle.

DeSoto Athletes Bring Home World Series Title as Shreveport Nationals All Star Team

During the week of July 28 through 30 the Shreveport Nationals 8U All Star Team earned the right to represent the state of Louisiana in the 2019 Dixie World Series following after winning the District Championship in Minden on June 16, and a finalist finish at the July 4-7 Louisiana Dixie Tournament in Ruston. Teams represented in the tournament came from Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, and the host city of Ruston.

Seven players from the North DeSoto Aces Dixie 8U team, along with five additional teammates from other Shreveport Dixie teams, comprised the Shreveport National 8U All Star Team. Representing DeSoto were Levi Jones, Alex Espinoza, Drake Parker, Tripp Caskey, Easton Jones, Balyn Stewart, and Dax Hamon.

DeSoto Chamber and City of Mansfield Join Together at Mansfield Revitalization Meeting

The DeSoto Parish Chamber of Commerce has joined an initiative with the City of Mansfield named “Mansfield in Motion” to revitalize Mansfield. The Chamber has recently acquired funds to assist in this project.

You are invited to attend a public meeting of commercial property owners and business owners in the City of Mansfield. The meeting will be held on Monday, August 12, 2019, at 2:00 pm at the DeSoto Parish Chamber office located at 115 N. Washington Avenue in Mansfield.
