Article Image Alt Text

DeSoto Parish School System received its annual student progress report on August 27, 2019 from the Louisiana Department of Education, which showed gains in the 2018-2019 school year. The school system ranks high in the annual rate of growth from one year to the next for students that take the LEAP 2025 assessment. This report ranks DeSoto Parish as one of the “Top Ten Top Growth” school districts in the State of Louisiana. This is the second year in a row that DeSoto has earned this recognition among the 70 school districts across the State.

School Districts earn top distinction in the progress measure by showing improvement on ELA and math assessments that are on track to Mastery of key skills and content by 8th grade (elementary/middle school) or 10th grade (high school), and for outperforming other similar student groups statewide, as measured by Louisiana’s value-added model.

Logansport Chamber Welcomes Integrity Counseling with Ribbon Cutting

Article Image Alt Text

On Thursday, August 15, the Logansport Chamber of Commerce hosted a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony welcoming Integrity Counseling to the business community. Sonja Smith Polley, LPC, NCC is a Logansport native, and decided she wanted to bring licensed professional counseling to her hometown. She is married to Daniel Polley, who originally comes from San Augustine, Texas. They have 3 adult children and 3 grandchildren, with 3 more on the way.

Polley, who is a 1983 graduate of Logansport High School, stated that she began her adult career as a schoolteacher. While serving in that noble profession, she became aware of problems that children, parents, and even coworkers were having that the school system at that time didn’t address. She began to be drawn into the possibility of becoming a professional counselor, when God spoke to her and awakened her to follow her heart and do His will.
