In April of 2019 Trevor Williams was arrested in connection with the killing of his twin brother, Trenton Williams, and the attempted murder of Amanda Lowery.

On April 29, 2019, Trenton Williams and Lowery were stopped in her vehicle at the intersection of LA Hwy 175 and Howard Lane in Frierson, when Trevor Williams approached both and began firing a handgun into the vehicle.

Trenton Williams was shot multiple times, and Lowery, who was pregnant at the time, was also shot. Trevor Williams then removed Trenton Williams from Lowery’s vehicle and ran over him with the vehicle he was driving before departing the scene.

During the trial of Trevor Williams in July of this year, it took the Jury only 16 minutes to find him guilty of second-degree murder as well as attempted second degree murder. He was scheduled for sentencing on a later date.

In April 2021, DeSoto Parish County Agent for the LSU AgCenter, Chuck Griffin, retired after 32 years of service.

Chuck started as a Regional Dairy Specialist and then became County Agent for DeSoto Parish working with farmers to develop best management practices for their operations. Chuck actively hosted DeSoto Parish Cattleman’s meetings, served on the State Fair of Louisiana and LSU Spring Livestock show committee’s to run the youth dairy shows, and served at the NW District Livestock Show manager. Chuck also chaperoned numerous 4-H trips including National Dairy Conference and 4-H University/Short Course. He was an asset to the LSU AgCenter and will be greatly missed.

Joaquin ISD is required to collect and report the socioeconomic status of each student to the Texas Education Agency for purposes of the annual state accountability ratings and for federal reporting. This form will be given at the time of registration. It can also be found here:

Robbo Davidson’s book, “The Evil I Have Seen” continues to receive 5 star ratings on Amazon with impressive comments about the book. While it has sold out locally in DeSoto Parish at The Enterprise, the DeSoto Chamber of Commerce and 4C Coffee House, it available at Barnes and Noble in Shreveport. The book is so popular at B&N they invited Davidson to hold a book signing at their Youree Drive location.

Davidson will be set up, and ready to sign and personalize his book. Photo opportunities will also be available on Saturday, August 28 from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m.

On Saturday, July 31, the Clista A. Calhoun Center was all aglow with the Inaugural Miss DeSoto Mardi Gras Pageant, hosted by the Krewe of Demeter. Young ladies and babies from age 0 to 18 competed for the various titles, plus the divisions of Best Fashion, Prettiest Hair, Prettiest Smile, Prettiest Eyes, and the People’s Choice.

NFIB State Director Dawn McVea said today that 65 state legislators, 16 members of the Senate and 49 members of the House, achieved a 100 percent NFIB Voting Record in the 2020-21 legislative session.

District 38 Senator Barry Milligan that represents DeSoto and a portion of Caddo, had a 100% voting record, with Representative Larry Bagley of District 7, representing DeSoto and a portion of Caddo, had a 90% record. Representative for District 23 Kenny Cox had an 80% record.

“Our members really appreciate the work these legislators do to support small business,” McVea said. “Many of these legislators are small business owners themselves, so they really understand the challenges our members face in these trying times.”

Meet the Rams will be held on August 19th at 5:30 p.m. on the football field prior to Battle on the Border, which will begin at 6:00 p.m. The Joaquin Athletic Booster Club will be taking the gate and it will be $5 for everyone school aged and older. Mansfield Asst. Police Chief Billy Locke reported that at approximately 3:45a.m. on Friday, August 13, 2021, officers responded to a business burglary at the local AT&T store located in the 800 block of Polk Street.

Upon arrival, officers found that entry had been made through the rear of the building. Once inside the burglars made off with several electronic devices and an undisclosed amount of cash.

The North DeSoto Quarterback Club will be hosting the 3rd Annual Meet the Players Auction Dinner on August 14th at the Stonewall Community Center in Stonewall, LA. Doors will open at 6:00PM and dinner will be served at 6:30PM, with the auction to follow. The auction items will consist of sports memorabilia, vacation getaways and much more. The proceeds from the auction will benefit the North DeSoto High School football program.

“We are excited about our upcoming Meet the Players Auction Dinner.”, said Quarterback Club President Christy Bates. “The dinner serves as an opportunity to introduce the 2021 North DeSoto Griffins and to raise money for the football program. The proceeds are used to purchase practice equipment and pregame meals for the football team.
