This Saturday night, the streets along the parade route of the Krewe of Aquarius XVI’s parade will be filled to capacity as cries of “Throw me something, Mister or Lady” echo throughout the night. The annual event is one of Logansport’s most popular events, with area restaurants, service stations and other businesses reaping the benefits of people enjoying a night of free, fun-filled family entertainment.

Sheriff Jayson Richardson has reported that at approximately 11:50 a.m. on Friday, January 31, DeSoto 911 Dispatchers received a call that a female had been shot near the 900 block of Railroad Avenue in Mansfield. Dispatchers were given a description of the suspect and vehicle with an unknown direction of travel.

As of Saturday, February 1, DeSoto Fire District’s Chief Bobby Hayes will end his 20 year career as his department’s leader. Hayes first came on board at the Frierson area department when he moved to DeSoto Parish in 1999. He was named Chief in 2000.

At the January 13th DeSoto Parish Police Jury meeting, new Jurors Jimmy Holmes (District 1A) and Nicholas Gasper (District 2) were welcomed as they took their seats for their first official meeting. Linda Gatlin will serve the Jury another two years as treasurer.

In special inaugural ceremonies in the Louisiana State Senate Chamber, members of the 2020-2024 State Senate took the oath of office and were officially seated as State Senators. Among the 39 members are 20 new State Senators, including nine who are beginning their first term in the Louisiana Legislature. After taking the oath of office from Louisiana Supreme Court Chief Justice Bernette Johnson, the members chose their leadership.
