DeSoto EMS Announces Plans to Build New Station on Hwy 509

On February 20, the DeSoto Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Board of Commissioners met with Architect Sara George for a pre-bid conference with about 20 potential bidders attending. A new station will be constructed on HWY 509, near Interstate 49, and will be similar in design to the Central Station, located on HWY 171, north of Mansfield, and the newly constructed Station 1, located on HWY 84, in Logansport

DeSoto Parish Clerk of Court and DeSoto Parish Library Branches Team Up to Offer Better Services

If you live in Pelican or Logansport and need to research documents that are filed in the DeSoto Parish Clerk of Court’s office, you no longer will have to drive to Mansfield in most cases. Clerk of Court Jeremy Evans has teamed up with the DeSoto Parish Library system installing special computers for residents that use these two libraries to review records from the facilities

NWTF Bayou Pierre Super Fund Banquet Set for Thursday

The weeks of hard work and preparation will come to a close on Thursday, February 27, when the members of the National Wild Turkey Federation (NWTF) host their 15th Annual banquet, with doors opening at 5:30 PM and
dinner starting at 7:00 PM. Each year, thousands of NWTF members and volunteers flock to banquet halls and civic centers across North America to share stories, a meal and common goals – conserving wildlife and protecting our hunting heritage, with area residents doing their part here in DeSoto Parish

DeSoto Chamber of Commerce Annual Banquet Slated for May 22

The DeSoto Parish Chamber of Commerce had their monthly meeting on February 18, with Billy B’s Cajun Grill catering the business luncheon. Business of the Month, English Wrecker and Auto Parts, and Individual Member of the Month, Mansfield Police Chief, Gary Hobbs, were recognized and presented certificates by Chamber President Charles Waldon

Logansport Sand Bass Tournament Date Set for March 8

On March 8, the river will be filled with anglers participating in the 6th Annual Logansport Chamber of Commerce’s Sand Bass Tournament. The popular event is held each year on the Sabine River, where Toledo Bend Reservoir begins. While the 2012 event was cancelled due to river and boat launch water level conditions, the 2013 event came back bigger and stronger, with the 2014 tourney scheduled to be just as good, if not 
better than ever

Stonewall Residents Question Mayor and Council Regarding Suggested SPD Termination

Due to the weather conditions, the regular meeting of the Stonewall City Council was postponed until Thursday, February 13, with many in the community upset over a Facebook post that had hit the Internet regarding a Public Notice that had been posted in The Enterprise the day prior to the  delayed meeting.

DeSoto Chamber Hosts Ribbon Cutting for Salon Jolie in Stonewall

The DeSoto Parish Chamber of Commerce was joined by friends, staff, relatives and local dignitaries as they celebrated the Ribbon Cutting and Grand Opening of Salon Jolie, located at 2070 Hwy 171 in Stonewall. Salon owner, Emily Jolie, was raised in the Southern Hills section of Shreveport, and has been working as a stylist for the past nine years.

Stonewall’s Newest Business Honored with Ribbon Cutting Ceremony

On February 13, Altis Computer Services was honored with a Ribbon Cutting and Grand Opening ceremonies by the DeSoto Parish Chamber of Commerce. After cutting the ribbon, those attending were able to tour the facility and ask questions about what their company had to offer, both for consumers as  well as business entities.

Retired 11th Judicial District Judge John S. Pickett, Jr. Succumbs

Funeral services were held on Friday, February 7 for retired District Judge John S. Pickett, Jr., who served on the bench for just over 18 years in the 11th Judicial District, formerly shared by DeSoto and Sabine Parishes. Judge Pickett was born on June 12, 1920 in Fisher, and passed away on February 5
