Chamber Welcomes Louisiana Belle to Mansfield Community

On Thursday, September 19, Louisiana Belle Lashes and Beauty Bar, located at 401 Polk Street – Suite A, became the newest business in Mansfield. The DeSoto Parish Chamber of Commerce welcomed the new salon, which is located inside Hannah Touchton’s Sew Unique Monogramming and Boutique, with a Ribbon Cutting ceremony. Owner Katelyn Calhoun welcomed both old and new clientele as they walked through the new facility.

Services offered at Louisiana Belle include all things to make women look their best including lash extensions, facials, dermaplaning, chemical peels, waxing and make-up application services. While Katelyn works strictly by appointments, she is willing to meet her clients’ needs by accepting either early or late bookings.

Outpatient Medical Center Inc. Acquires DeSoto Healthcare Center Inc. Rural Health Clinic

Outpatient Medical Center Inc. (OMC Inc.) has officially acquired DeSoto Healthcare Center Inc. (DHC) rural health center in Mansfield. The two non-profit health systems came together as a result of shared community service mission, vision and values and through this acquisition, both entities will use their strengthened assets to expand primary care access and diversity to their valued DeSoto and surrounding parish community families. Outpatient Medical Center Inc. will continue to operate DeSoto Healthcare Center Inc. as rural health center as a company subsidiary up to and through such time as the Center is formally recognized as part of its Federally Qualified Health Center network.

DPSB Extends Superintendent Clay Corley’s Contract

At the September meeting of the DeSoto Parish School Board, Superintendent Clay Corley’s contract was unanimously renewed by the board through July 2023. Several board members spoke highly of Corley with President Bobby Boyd stating that he was glad that Corley decided to come to DeSoto Parish and that he knew he was planning on staying. Brown concluded his statements about Corley by saying he was pleased that they were all working together as a team, which helped the DeSoto Parish School Board move ahead, with many in the state wishing they had a program like DeSoto’s.

Donnie Dufour said, “Superintendent Corley has done a great job. He is easy to work with, and both the teachers and students love him.”

DeSoto Parish Early Voting to be Held in Two Locations

Secretary of State Kyle Ardoin, DeSoto Parish Registrar of Voters Amanda (Mars) Raynes, and DeSoto Parish Police Jury President Reggie Roe have announced that early voting for the October 12 Gubernatorial Primary Election will be held in two places. Voters can early vote at both the old Registrar of Voters (ROV) Office as well as the new Registrar of Voters Office.

The old ROV’s office is located at 105 Franklins Street in Mansfield, and the new ROV’s office is located at 104 Crosby Street, also in Mansfield. The new location is sometimes referred to by locals as “the old library” and is right next door to the Mansfield Post Office. There will be signage and staff directing voters at each location.

“I am glad to see the DeSoto Registrar’s Office move from its old location,” Secretary of State Kyle Ardoin said. “The new building is more accessible and spacious, which will ensure privacy for the voters of DeSoto Parish.”

DeSoto Parish District Attorney Empanels Grand Jury Away from Courthouse

On August 28, two former DeSoto Parish deputies and one current deputy were indicted on separate charges following the DeSoto Grand Jury’s session. District Attorney Gary Evans took the unusual step of selecting grand jurors away from the courthouse.

Louisiana Secretary of State Speaks at Special DPPJ Meeting

On Wednesday, September 4, Louisiana Secretary of State Kyle Ardoin spoke at a special meeting that was called by the DeSoto Parish Police Jury. The two items on the agenda included Early Voting at the Registrar’s Office and Authorizing the District Attorney to file an appeal to the Supreme Court of the State of Louisiana on the matter of space for the District Attorney in the Courthouse.

With the group Mansfield in Motion asking businesses to cleanup and beautify their storefronts and property, Hannah Touchtone went the extra mile by purchasing and installing a new sign for her business located at 401 Polk Street in Mansfield. Sew Unique Monogramming and Boutique is open Tuesday though Friday from 10:00 a.m. until 5:30 p.m., and on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. The boutique offers ladies clothing, girls’ clothing, baby items, shoes, jewelry, accessories, candles, bath bombs and various gift items.

September 11 Last Day to Register to Vote in Person or Mail for October 12 Election

Secretary of State Kyle Ardoin joined registrars of voters across the state the week of Sept. 2-6, 2019 to host Voter Registration Week activities aimed at registering eligible citizens to vote. The next regularly scheduled election in Louisiana is the Gubernatorial General scheduled for October 12.

“The first step to participating in the electoral process is registering to vote,” Secretary of State Kyle Ardoin said. “This fall, Louisianians will choose statewide leaders as well as vote for a host of local and municipal races, constitutional amendments and propositions. Make sure you get registered so you can Geaux Vote on Election Day!”
