Due to the possibility of heavy rain, the Cornerstone Cowboy Church 6th Annual Rodeo has been re-scheduled for the weekend of September 1st & 2nd.

The DeSoto Parish School System has shown continuous improvement in Advanced Placement (AP) coursework. With the Louisiana Department of Education's recently released AP results, DeSoto continues its upward trajectory in these college level classes.

"This growth is the product of increased awareness of our advanced programming, continuous improvement from our talented educators, and students willing to take short-term challenges for long-term academic gains," said Dr. Cade Brumley, Superintendent. "Once again, we set a target and our team met the standards for our students and communities."

DeSoto Parish Police Jury held a Parks and Recreation Committee Workshop on July 31 to discuss future plans for the DeSoto Parish Sports Complex with DeSoto Athletics Board President Mike Campbell.

The workshop was held to see what is going on with the baseball and softball program and what they would like to see done for next year and in the future.

This has been a long journey, but it has finally come to its end. From the moment their school year ended, the River City Track Club’s training began. No summer fun. No vacation. No play time. From training to working out to fundraising, it was all work. Not only did the kids put in the hard work, but the parents shared in it as well. They missed work, family vacations and parties. There was no time to waste. But guess what Mansfield? It all paid off.

It’s no secret that DeSoto Parish Sheriff Rodney Arbuckle and District Attorney Gary Evans do not currently see eye-to-eye. Arbuckle suspended the involvement of the DeSoto Parish Sheriff’s Office in Evans’ L.A.C.E. program in June, and since then the two have blamed each other for the reason behind the suspension.

The DPSO’s participation in L.A.C.E. not only affects the officers by cutting their overtime hours and pay, but it also affects the safety of the community because there are now fewer officers on the road.

Louisiana’s annual sales tax holiday is scheduled for Friday, Aug. 4 and Saturday, Aug. 5.

According to the Louisiana Department of Revenue, “Eligible purchases of most items tangible personal property are subject to a state sales tax rate of only three percent during the sales tax holiday. This sales tax exemption applies to the first $2500 of the sales price or cost price of any consumer purchase of an eligible item.

DeSoto Parish Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting for Ambience Event Center on July 21 for Ambience Event Center. The event center, which is located at 2401 Hwy. 171 in Stonewall,will have a Grand Opening July 30 from 5-7 p.m.

DeSoto Parish Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting for BDS Motorsports on July 21. BDS Motorsports is located at 1664 Hwy. 171 in Stonewall. They will have an open house Saturday, July 22 from 8 a.m.-3 p.m.
