Growth Underway in North DeSoto Parish in Frierson and Stonewall Area

It seems folks are anxious to move toward the north end of DeSoto Parish and subdivision developers are busy working to make quality housing available.

Folks have begun moving into Griffin Estates, a subdivision on Hwy 171 built by Bradley Sepulvado, which may have sparked the notion for other developers to build in the Stonewall area.

Underway now is a subdivision being developed by Joe Beaubouef at the intersection of Hwy 5 and Red Bluff Road in Frierson, Kirk Dickson is the developer of Plantation Hills, a gated community, is being located on Highway 3132 just east of Stonewall and Roger Tharpe is also building a subdivision on Gravel Point Road.

Mansfield Man Wanted by DPSO

Sheriff Rodney Arbuckle wanted to notify the media and public of a suspect wanted for the Attempted Murder of a Law Enforcement Officer.  On Oct. 24, a deputy with the DeSoto Parish Sheriff’s Office received a tip regarding a suspect, identified as Malcolm Jamal Flowers (B/M – DOB: 01/15/1989) of Mansfield, who was wanted on an outstanding felony warrant for the offenses of Principal to Distribution of Schedule I and Principal to Distribution of Schedule II. Deputies responded to the location and at about 1:20 p.m. and observed a vehicle they believed to be occupied by Flowers.

20-Year-Old Man Found Guilty of Manslaughter

Darius Smart, 20, was convicted of killing Kirby Johnson on Oct. 16 at the DeSoto Parish Court House.

According to Assistant District Attorney George Winston, Smart was associated with someone in the community who Johnson allegedly owed money to. The prosecution believes this had to do with Smart’s motivation to shoot Johnson.

DeSoto Parish Crime Stoppers Felon of the Week Program is asking for the public’s help in locating/identifying suspect(s) wanted from DeSoto Parish Area.

Malcolm J. Flowers of Mansfield, La. Flowers is wanted for Attempted First Degree Murder of a Police Officer, Principal to Distribution of Marijuana, Principal to Distribution of Cocaine. Flowers is described as a black male, 6’1” tall and weighing 180lbs. Flowers is 28 years of age.

DeSoto Parish Crime Stoppers is offering a reward up to $1000.00 for information that results in the suspects arrest, anyone with information is asked to call the Crime Stoppers line at 1-800-505-STOP(7867) all calls are confidential or contact the Desoto Parish Sheriff’s Office at (318)872-3956. DeSoto Parish Woman Inducted into N-Club Hall of Fame

Frierson resident and basketball great Stephanie Shaw Locke is among the Northwestern State NClub Hall of Fame induction class of 2017. Other inductees are major league pitcher Brian Lawrence, football All-Americans Tony Joe Maranto and Ronnie Powell, basketball greats Bo Rayford and Eric Kubel and Lady Demon track trailblazer Marlene Garner. The seven standouts will receive NSU’s highest athletic honor on Homecoming Saturday, Oct. 21 at 10 a.m. in a free ceremony at the Magale Recital Hall on NSU’s campus, and they will be recognized at the football game Saturday night.

Cruisin’ in Grand Cane Vehicle Showcase Features Brian Gantley

After the passing of his wife, Brian Gantley decided to honor the memory of his wife by developing Pergan Classics because she always had a passion for restoring old cars. His son, Michael, saw that he needed help in restoring these old cars so he moved back and lived on the property to be of assistance.

This 1951 Mercury 2- door “lead sled” shown in the photo is one of several Gantley has restored and was a work in progress. His awards have been numerous from local car shows and World of Wheels in Dallas and Shreveport. He won Best Car at the 2016 Cruisin’ in Grand Cane show.

Police Jury Recognize Heroes

Police Jury recognized two local heroes—Tina Lane and Harold Vawters—at their meeting on Oct. 9. Lane and Vawters eachsaved a person’s life from a house fire. Vawters was in attendance to accept his award.

Former MHS Principal Represents State at National Event

Sedric G. Clark, former principal of Mansfield High School and current Superintendent of the Gladewater Independent School District in Gladewater, Texas recently represented the state of Louisiana at the National Principals' Institute in Washington D.C. Clark was chosen as Louisiana's Overall Principal of the Year in July of 2016. His final duty as such was to represent Louisiana at the event.

The event took place on Sept. 24-27. The Principals of the Year from all 50 states attended and were recognized. One National Principal of the Year will be selected and will be announced during National Principals' Month in October. The three finalists are from Georgia, Illinois and South Carolina.
