Logansport Future Farmers of America Attends 2016 National Convention

The Logansport FFA recently traveled to Indianapolis, IN for the 2016 National FFA Convention. While there, we attended various workshops and sessions to better improve our FFA chapter. We also had the opportunity to meet FFA members from all across the country, which allowed us to share ideas on how to make our chapter better. This trip was a once in a life time opportunity and an amazing experience for our club.

Tinker and Gourley Wed

Amber Nicole Tinker and Christopher Chase Gourley will be united in marriage on Sunday, October 30, 2016. The couple met while attending North DeSoto High School. The ceremony will be held in the balloom of Sam's Town Casino located in downtown Shreveport. Amber will be escorted down the aisle by her mother, Sheila Miller Tinker of Stonewall. The bridal dress is a lovely creation of full-skirted organza accented with a small crystal-beaded flower at the waist. The bodice is strapless with a sweetheart neckline.

DeSoto Students Participate in Red Ribbon Week

This week, schools throughout DeSoto Parish are participating in the National Red Ribbon Campaign. Known as Red Ribbon Week, students are engaging in various activities targeted to raise awareness regarding alcohol, tobacco, drug, and bullying/violence prevention. “We live in an increasingly complex world where our youth are exposed to frequent negative influences in their lives on television, social media, conversations, and gaming,” said Dr. Cade Brumley, DeSoto Superintendent. “We want to support the work of our parents in preparing children to better understand how to avoid dangerous environments and realize the consequences of poor choices.”

October is Down Syndrome Awareness Month

Suzanne Creech wants to promote awareness of Down Syndrome. She has taken the month of October, which is nationally recognized as Down Syndrome Awareness Month, to loan the Logansport Branch Library more information and local activities planned to help this event. Suzanne’s group, like others across the nation, host a Buddy Walk with three main goals: To promote acceptance and inclusion of people with Down Syndrome; raise funds for education, research and advocacy programs; and to enhance the position of the Down Syndrome community to positively influence local and national policy and practice.

DPSO Sgt. Angela Bandy Speaks to Mansfield Lions

The Mansfield Lions Club had as their special guest speaker, Sgt. Angela Bandy from the DeSoto Parish Sheriff's Office. Angela is from the Criminal Investigation Division working mainly with child abuse, sexual abuse, and elderly abuse cases as well as sex crimes involving children and pornographic cases. Angela wanted everyone to know there are many resources available to anyone a victim of any of these abuses and crimes with the main thing to contact her or let someone know what has happened.
