Krewe of Demeter Announces Grand Bal Theme, Entertainment and Date

The Krewe of Demeter, which is headquartered in Mansfield but has members throughout the area, has announced plans for their Second Annual Mardi Grand Bal, which is to be held on Saturday, January 28 at 6:30 PM. This year’s venue, the Dave B. Means, Jr. Memorial 4-H Building, will be magically transformed to fit the 2016-17 theme, “Under the Big Top”. Tickets are currently on sale for $75.00 each, or $125.00 per couple, and will include entertainment, food and a memorable time. Captain Demeter II Crystal Simone Hults stated that the event is Black Tie formal attire, with tuxes and gowns required to gain admittance.

C. J. Kittle Receives Diploma from NWLTC – Mansfield

C. J. Kittle received his High School Equivalency Diploma on December 8, 2016 at the Clista Calhoun Center. He attended the Northwest Louisiana Technical College – Mansfield Campus Adult Education Hiset preparation classes for several months before taking his test. At NWLTC Mansfield Campus, he worked on an individualized program addressing his needs in math, reading, language arts, science, and social studies. Because he was a self-motivated student, he completed his classes quickly. C. J scored "college-level ready" on all parts of the Hiset test and has been accepted into the computer technology program at Bossier Parish Community College where he will pursue a degree in computer programming. Mansfield Middle School Elects 2017 Mardi Gras King and Queen

Mansfield Middle School is pleased to announce that Dyllan Robinson and T’Mia Handy have been elected by the student body as the 2017 Mardi Gras King and Queen. Dyllan is the son of Perry and Chassidy Robinson. He is a member of the MMS football and basketball teams. In his spare time, he volunteers with the Mansfield Clean-up committee. T’Mia is the daughter of Shakisha Handy.

Sabine Bank Makes Donation to DPSO’s Christmas Fund

Beginning with Thanksgiving, the holidays can be an additional expense that are a luxury to many families that are already struggling to make ends meet. Employees of Sabine State Bank’s Mansfield and Logansport branches are acutely aware of many situations where area families need a helping hand. Keeping that in mind, the staff of both locations began working to make and collect funds to help area families during the holiday season. In order to get to wear jeans on Wednesdays, employees paid a fee of $3.00 each that went into their Christmas Love Fund.

Mansfield Natives Honored at 2016 GOLD Awards

November 16, Mansfield natives Deborah Banks and RaShad Bristo were honored with awards at the Governor’s Outstanding Leadership in Disability (GOLD) Awards for 2016 held at the Louisiana Old State Capital Building in Baton Rouge. Bristo was presented the Ken Vince Memorial Award with Banks receiving the Volunteer of the Year award. Governor John Bel Edwards attended the ceremony and congratulated recipients. The GOLD Awards present an opportunity for Louisiana to pay tribute to the achievements and dedication of individuals in the disability community. GOLD Award recipients have done exceptional work throughout the state to impact the lives of others and their communities. Out of the twelve people honored statewide, two of the recipients call Mansfield their home.

Bon Chasse Chapter of DAR Pin New Member

The Bon Chasse Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution held their Christmas Luncheon on December 10th at the Mansfield Female College Museum. The ladies enjoyed lots of good food at the potluck event. The festivities included the swearing in of the newest member, Julie Henderson. Her mother, Mary Jo Sebastian, Chapter Treasurer, was present and pinned Julie with her new member pin. In the spirit of Christmas, the Daughters brought can goods to donate to a local family in need. The Bon Chasse Chapter gave a big thank you to Van Reech, Museum Director, for allowing them to use the facility.
