DeSoto Clerk’s Office Honors Anna Herring with 90th Birthday Celebration

DeSoto Parish Clerk of Court Jeremy Evans and his staff recently held a birthday celebration as they observed the 90th birthday of longtime employee Anna Herring. She has worked part-time for the Clerk’s office around fifteen years, and currently serves in the scanning department. Evans said that “Ms. Anna” verifies all documents before scanning them for official archival records. “Ms. Anna works around twenty hours weekly, and is never late. I can’t recall the last time she even took a sick day,” stated Evan

Gloria Peters DAC Featured Artist for December

Visitors to this year’s Historic Grand Cane Pioneer Christmas Parade will have a treat in store when they visit the DeSoto Arts Council Gloria Peters’ Feature Artist Show…because Christmas is her specialty. She is a DAC Gallery Artist and Board Member and has been painting for over 20 years with acrylics and oils. Her favorite medium is oil on canvas, and she really enjoys painting Christmas projects of all kinds.

BackAlley Gives Thanks for Christmas Season

BackAlley Theatre is gearing up for a spectacular Christmas show on Dec. 2 and 3rd at Central School in Grand Cane. HOLLY JOLLY CHRISTMAS will include country, gospel, and traditional Christmas music to kick off the Christmas season. The show is being moved to Central School Auditorium, 1035 Second Street, to accommodate the larger crowd expected. Tickets are $10 and box office is 461 0202 or email: batboxoffice@gmail.com. Curtain is 7pm.

John Neilson is master of ceremonies of this show, which includes piano, guitar, fiddle, flute and ukulele arrangements.

28th Annual Christmas Gala to be Presented in Natchitoches

The Mrs. H.D. Dear Sr. and Alice E. Dear School of Creative and Performing Arts at Northwestern State University will present the 28th annual Christmas Gala Nov. 30 – Dec. 2 in the A.A. Fredericks Auditorium. Performance times are 7 p.m. each evening with a 9 p.m. performance on Dec. 2.

Tickets to all performances are $10. Northwestern State students, BPCC@NSU and Louisiana School for Math, Science and the Arts students are admitted free with a current student I.D. Landry and Company Return to Logansport to Perform at Christmas Festival

Local favorites Landry and Company will return to entertain at the Logansport Christmas Festival on Saturday, November 19 at 2:00 PM. When you think of area bands home-based out of DeSoto Parish, one of the first that comes to mind is Stonewall’s own, Landry and Company, which is a musical family collaboration of dad, Steve Wilkinson, and sons Landry and Cardis Wilkinson. What a perfect fit for this year’s Christmas theme than “Small Town Christmas Tradition” than a father-son group that are among the favorites at all Logansport celebrations.

Justin Merritt Band to Headline the Logansport Christmas Festival this Saturday

The Justin Merritt Band of Toledo Bend, Louisiana will be this year’s headliner for the Logansport Christmas Festival.The event will be held on Saturday,  November 19, beginning at 4:00 PM. The band’s original songs will be part of the show with favorite cover tunes also performed. Members of the band include Justin Merritt on lead vocals and guitar, Trent Procell on Bass, Waylon Salter on Lead Guitar, pedal steel and back-up vocals, and John Keith on drums.

Books and Biscuits Club November Meeting

Books and Biscuits Book Club chose “All The Light We Cannot See” by Anthony Doerr for its November 1, book club discussion. After a delicious lasagna lunch provided at the Cook-Hill House volunteer innkeepers in Grand Cane, the members dissected the Pulitzer Prize winning book about ablind French girl and a German soldier whose paths collide in occupied France as both try to survive the devastation of WWII. Doerr starts his story in 1944, just before the US Air Force bombed the Nazi occupied town of Saint Malo, then goes back to 1934to describe two childhoods: those of  Werner and Marie-Laure.

Mansfield Rotary Club Makes Donation to Operation Christmas Child

Rotary Club President John Adams is shown presenting a donation from the club to Mrs. Jill Heard for Operation Christmas Child. Mrs. Heard is the local coordinator for the group, which collects gift-filled shoeboxes and delivers them at Christmas time to children living in desperate circumstances around the world.
