The Mansfield Garden Club held its October Meeting, Wednesday, October 16, at the DeSoto Chamber of Commerce building on Washington Street. Approximately 20 members were present and guest were Gail’s two granddaughters Haley and Britny and sister, Lula. Hostesses were Jackie Albright, Martha Walker, and Gail Gage.

Each year, volunteer Deputies and staff of the DeSoto Parish Sheriff ’s Department dress up and decorate the sheriff ’s office to the delight of young and old, using their own funds.

Last week, the Fifth Annual Pink Affair was held at the Clista A. Calhoun Center in Mansfield. Breast Cancer Survivors, their friends and family were the special guests for the evening. Those that had lost their valiant battle with breast cancer were remembered as well.

The DeSoto Shelter has lots of adorable kittens and some cuddly adult cats that are up for adoption. With kitty adoptions being pretty low shelter volunteer Cora Gardner is having a donation drive to help stock the shelter up with some non-clumping, unscented cat litter and Kitten Chow or the Walmart brand of kitten food called “Special Kitty”.

BARRY’S BACK! Barry Wiley, popular local artist, has several new pieces in the DeSoto Arts Council Gallery located in the Hicks & Richardson Bldg in Historic Grand Cane, LA. Wiley’s collectible pieces depict scenes of daily life: work, play and worship from by-gone times in colorful and engaging ways, using the “primitive art style” of painting.

The Gallery offers visitors exposure to original art pieces, ranging from full size, framed original art depicting nature, architecture, still life, sculpture, and more.

The Stonewall Homemakers met on October 10, 2019 at Stonewall Town Hall at 9:30 a.m. and carpooled to the Shreveport Scottish Rite Cathedral. The Cathedral was designed by local architect, Edward Neild and was built in 1917 at a cost of $186,477.28. The building houses a three story theater, library, kitchen and other rooms. The building has been featured in movies and is used for weddings and other events. The tour was conducted by General Secretary, Gary Gribble.

50 Mile Trail of Treasure is celebrating their 5th year of hosting a gathering of garage sale, arts, crafts, food, and informational booths beginning in Stonewall, traveling South through Grand Cane, then to Mansfield, where motorists turn right on Hwy. 84, continuing through Stanley and Logansport, where they cross the Sabine River Bridge into Joaquin, where the trail splits down both Hwy 84 and Hwy 7.
