Logansport Middle School Platinum and Gold students had a fantastic field trip to reward their hard work in academics, discipline, and attendance. The DeSoto Parish School Board has recently done feature sections on their website about each board member highlighting their favorite school memory, favorite part of serving as a board member, what makes DeSoto Parish schools the best, and what is the one thing you would go back to school to learn. This week’s feature is on Tommy Craig who represents District 9.

Favorite School Memory: My favorite memories from my school days were American History, playing football and hanging out with friends.

Tickets Available for the Mansfield NAUW 2020 Debutante Cotillion

The Mansfield Branch of the National Association of University Women (NAUW) will present the 2020 Debutante Cotillion on Saturday, March 21st, at Mansfield Elementary/Mansfield Middle School. Nine young ladies will be presented, and their accomplishments and ambitions will be celebrated.

Throughout this Debutante Ball season, the young ladies have attended educational seminars, as well as kept up with their normal school work and extracurricular activities.

LPB CEO and President Beth Courtney Honored as Broadcaster of the Year

Beth Courtney, President and CEO of Louisiana Public Broadcasting (LPB) was named 2020 Broadcaster of the Year by the Louisiana Association of Broadcasters (LAB). The Broadcaster of the Year Award is an honor given to the general/station manager who has “...provided significant contributions and service to the broadcast industry, and who has displayed the most outstanding record of civic achievement and public service...” and was presented to Courtney during LAB’s 2020 Prestige Awards luncheon on Tuesday, March 10.

JERRY G. GAMBLE

Funeral services honoring the life of Jerry G. Gamble, 85, were at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 28, 2020 at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Mansfield, Louisiana with Bro. Mike Scott officiating. Interment will follow at Grand Cane Cemetery. A visitation with the family was held from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 27, 2020 at the funeral home.

Jerry was born on March 19, 1934 in Mansfield, Louisiana to Albert and Ima Horn Gamble. He entered into rest on February 24, 2020 in Shreveport, Louisiana.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Ima Horn Gamble; brothers, Dr. Hollis Gamble and Clarence Gamble, and his brother-in-law, Robert Revis.

LHS Black History Month Program was held Friday, February 14th. The program began with a prayer by 2nd grade student, Rylee Wilson, and the Pledge of Allegiance by 2nd grade student, Rylan Wilson. Senior, Ke’unnia Perkins, sang the national anthem followed by select readings by Jeremiah Albert, Tristany Johnson, Ms Bonita Brown, Cratelyn Henderson, A’Ladrian Williams, and Jaden Brakefield. Ms. Kourteni Henerdon blessed us with her amazing voice by singing “Lift Every Voice and Sing”.

Grand Cane will begin a new tradition this year, with their Inaugural Mardi Gras Parade to be held on Saturday, February 22 at 10:00 a.m. Organizers set the parade in the early time slot so that those that wish can attend other afternoon or evening parades on the same date.
