City of Mansfield Announces Lower Public Fire Protection Classification

In recent years, improvements have been made in the City’s Fire Department significant enough to lower their classification. The City has been under a Class 5 rating for over a decade (since January 2001). The Property Insurance Association of Louisiana (P.I.A.L.) recently notified the Mansfield Fire Department that their public fire protection classification was improved to a Class 4, effective September 8, 2014. This classification will be used by member companies of the P.I.A.L. to develop fire insurance premiums and may result in lower premiums for hundreds of households

MPD Officer Tamara Jackson Promoted to Detective

On August 25, Officer Tamara Jackson of the Mansfield Police Department received a promotion to detective in the Investigations Division. Chief Gary Hobbs made the recommendation for promotion to Mayor Curtis McCoy for approval. Chief Hobbs stated, “Officer Jackson has been with the city since 2009 and has proven she is a great asset to our department

National, State, Parish and Local Candidates Ready to Vie for Various Political Slots

Qualifying for various political offices at national, state, parish and local levels had would be candidates and incumbents registering from Wednesday, August 20 through Friday, August 22, for the office that they intended to run for. According to DeSoto Clerk of Court Jeremy Evans’ office, several were unopposed, with new district lines for school board members causing two current members to run against each other as well as new names thrown in the ring. Voters will go to the poll on November 4 to determine the outcome of the candidates wanting to serve in the various offices.

Local Family Loses Everything in House Fire

A local family has lost everything in a recent house fire and needs help from the community. Early Thursday morning Joel Salter, Sonya Bell and their three children lost everything they own in a house fire, with the cause yet to be
determined when The Enterprise went to press. They were renting their home and had no insurance on the contents

Mansfield Alive’s Employee of the Year Banquet Slated for Saturday Night

The deadline has been reached for nominations for Employee of the Year, but plans continue for the first annual event, which is hosted by the Mansfield Alive Committee. The new event was launched so employees of the area could be recognized and honored. The banquet is slated for Saturday, August 23 at 7:00 PM, and will be held at the Clista A. Calhoun Center

DeSoto DA Appointed to Board of Directors for Louisiana District Attorney’s Association

Richard Z. Johnson, Jr., District Attorney for Desoto Parish, has recently been appointed as a member of the Board of Directors for the Louisiana District Attorney’s Association. District Attorney David W. Burton was elected President of the Association. Burton is District Attorney in the Thirty-sixth Judicial District of Louisiana in Beauregard Parish.

Senator David Vitter Visits Mansfield

U.S. Senator David Vitter, during his visit last Tuesday afternoon in the Clista A. Calhoun Center, was peppered with questions during a visit, which lasted almost an hour. He did mention twice that he would be a candidate for
governor of Louisiana during the next election. It was his swing through the state to hold “town hall meetings”.

Mansfield Alive’s Employee of the Year Nominations Extended

Nominations have been extended until Monday, August 18 for the Employee of the Year banquet, hosted by the Mansfield Alive Committee. The new event was launched so employees of the area could be recognized and honored. The banquet is slated for Saturday, August 23 at 7:00 PM, and will be held at the Clista A. Calhoun Center.
