State Rep. Roy Burrell (D-Shreveport) authored a House Bill 1142, or “Gwenʼs Law” named for DeSoto Parish resident Gwen Cox Salley, who died as a result of domestic violence earlier this month. Burrell stated that the new law adds stalking to the list of violations of protective orders and prohibits the possession of firearms by persons subject to protective orders. Louisiana Governor’s Games to be Held at DeSoto Sports Complex

The Louisiana Governor’s Games have been one of vision in producing one of the finest series of amateur sporting events that include slow pitch softball, fast pitch softball, baseball and golf. On June 14 and 15, DeSoto Parish will have their first chance to host one of the fast pitch tournaments that will be held throughout the state. The ASA Girls Fast Pitch Open Tournament for U10, U12, U14 and U8 Coach Pitch will be bringing their best teams to compete.

Louisiana Lt. Governor Participates in Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for Toledo Bend Forest Scenic Byway

On Tuesday, May 6, Louisiana Lt. Governor Jay Dardenne was present for the Ribbon Cutting ceremony for the El Camino Real De los Tejas (also called the Royal Road or Kingʼs Highway) signage that was being installed in Natchitoches and Sabine Parishes. He then traveled in his bus, especially decorated to promote tourism in Louisiana, to the Toledo Bend Forest Byway that runs from Logansport to the Toledo Bend Dam along Hwy 191 in DeSoto and Sabine Parishes. Dardenne stated, “The travel industry means jobs to Louisiana, and we ARE the travel effect!”

Donnie Fisher Receives Dairyman of the Year Award

Dairymen and students were recognized for their contribution to Louisiana’s dairy industry and the LSU College of Agriculture’s dairy science program at the LSU Dairy Science Club and Dairy Alumni Banquet on May 3 at the Lod Cook Alumni Center. The Dairy Science Club gave Gary Cazaubon the Honorary Lifetime Member Award.
