Walter Lee Pleads Guilty to Misdemeanor Charges; Resigns from BESE Board

On Wednesday, December 10, former DeSoto Superintendent of Schools, Walter C. Lee, was in court for charges of felony theft, malfeasance in office and public contact fraud charges. By the end of the day, Judge Charles Adams would have Lee and his attorney, Taylor Townsend, and DeSoto District Attorney Richard Z. Johnson, Jr., return on December 11 to conclude court proceedings.

DPSB Approves Motion to Call Special Election for Tax Continuation

At the December meeting of the DeSoto Parish School Board, business was as usual with constituents addressing the board  and various policies to review listed. Item 9 on the agenda was the most notable entry that asked that the board vote to consider and take action with respect to adopting a  resolution ordering and calling a special election to be held in DeSoto Parish to authorize the continuation of special taxes.

Landrieu Defeated Statewide; DPPJ Proposition Fails

DeSoto voters joined with the statewide decision to have new representation in Washington D.C. by replacing Senator Mary Landrieu with Dr. Bill Cassidy. The DeSoto Parish turnout showed Landrieu receiving 46.03%, or 3,917 votes, with Cassidy receiving 53.97%, or 4,592 votes.

City of Mansfield Christmas Parade Set to Roll Down Polk Street this Saturday

Santa’s Elves and the Mansfield Alive! Committee have been hard at work with planning and decorating for the 2014 City of Mansfield Christmas Parade. The annual event will be held this coming Saturday, December 13, beginning at 2:00 PM. Voters to Determine Run-off Winners on December 6 with DPPJ Hoping for Millage Passage

DeSoto voters will once again go to the polls on December 6. This time, they will consider candidates from the state and local levels that are in run-offs for their seats. They also will determine whether or not  the DeSoto Parish Police Jury will receive the one mill tax that they are asking for with the funds going toward mosquito abatement.

It’s beginning to feel a lot like Christmas. Come get in the holiday  pirit on Saturday, Dec. 6th from 10:00am until 2:00pm as the Historic Grand Cane Association  (HGCA) and Becky and Don Bates celebrate our 8th Annual Pioneer Christmas Parade & Trade Day. Don Bates of Grand Cane has again done an outstanding job of enlisting entries, from near and far, for an all horse and mule drawn wagon and carriage parade.
